    Brand dislikes..

Hi thanks for the film sim background, I now understand it better. I feel that ISO values on digital cameras could be a bit meaningless as there's no ISO with them, only different interpretations of gain (on-chip, or post processing), and with the Fuji, I measured about 2.5x "cheat" compared to...

    Brand dislikes..

Fuji and its film simulation fetish. I know, people love Fuji for all sorts of reasons and Fuji needs different thinking to survive the competition, to me, they've done successfully, but not right. I've loved almost everything with my X-E3, but the idea of "it's supposed to look like film" has...

It's been 10 good years but it's time to bid farewell.

It terrifies me how fragile we are, a condition that literally takes away the joy, I really hope something went wrong in the diagnosis, anything.

    Mass upgrade

First I have to point out China is not a coffee drinking nation, therefor it's not as usual you'd get a tasteful cuppa as you get something drinkable from the fast food chain. There's the nice bakery my coworker and I sometimes go to during our break, where they serve Americano, cappuccino and...

What do you do for a living? AKA, how do you finance your gear? :)

I'm in petroleum importation business, which got me the opportunity to travel to a few countries and meet interesting people. I don't have a deep understanding of petrochemical products but my skillset and degree landed me this job not long after graduating from college 10 years ago. The...

    Last Picture

He was still beautiful in his last photo, they always, always are that perfect to their human families, I can't say enough how lucky we dog lovers are, and how heart breaking it must be losing them, may him rest in peace.

    Riddle me this...

The question isn't with phone/camera convergence. Every tool you use, you use it because of its efficiency, it's efficiency VS everything else. I can't imagine why my vaccum cleaner can't be integrated with a space heater, but I clearly understand why no one will make it that way. When the...

Can anyone explain why my photo became popular on Flickr?

I tend to look from a more positive perspective, it might be how our furry friends see the world, and yes, I mean wolves.

Can anyone explain why my photo became popular on Flickr?

Those two are both very popular-worthy photos.

    WiFi security

There's nothing to worry about if you don't tell others your WPA2 password, and you can turn off WPS if you don't plan to pair new devices with it. But more often the threats are from yourself. Say you have guests visiting and you're concerned about them accessing your home devices when...

    Dutch isn't that hard.

I was visiting Panama on a business trip back in 2014, and one afternoon I was walking in the street looking for an English speaking restaurant by looking at their signs, not that I didn't think someone working at a restaurant could speak some English but I just wanted to be more confident...

    Dutch isn't that hard.

I don't know Dutch, nor do I know German, but there's a Youtube channel by Dana Newman and her German husband called "Wanted Adventure", where she talks about Germany from an American perspective. More than once did she say that looooooooong words are very common in German since you can just...

Help me evaluate these photographs, please

Even different copies of the same lens/camera model render a bit differently so if you're looking for differences I'm sure there are a lot you can find. That said, what kind of differences are you trying to find in these scenes? It's like what I often say to myself, "this isn't a good photo"...

Which cameras are actually made in Japan these days?

I've had 7 m43 camera bodies in the past some of which were made in China and I didn't notice any difference. My Fuji X-E3 was made in Japan and that was the best camera body I've had, I don't know if the newer Chinese made X-T3 is different. But when it comes to lenses, the XF27 pancake which...

Does anybody else think that CCD sensors have a slightly different "look" to the images they produce?

You left the exif, they show under each photo, an interesting comparison though.

Does anybody else think that CCD sensors have a slightly different "look" to the images they produce?

After going through some of the my old photos and seeing some dpreview CCD camera sample photos, I can't say CCD produces a technically better image, not that anyone's implying that in the thread I know. What I do realise CCD could do to make photos look better to my eyes, is that although CCD...

Does anybody else think that CCD sensors have a slightly different "look" to the images they produce?

I agree with you that it's because of the hugely different subject they are not directly comparable in any scientific way. And by the way, very nice observations, and I like that you also pointed out what could be the other causes for different looks rather than just CCD vs CMOS. I'll wait a...

Does anybody else think that CCD sensors have a slightly different "look" to the images they produce?

One CCD photo and the other a CMOS photo, both SOOC, down-scaled and converted to PNG, vote which is which and I'll tell.

Flickr is so dead for me

Google photo is silly. It lacks proper management, and the uploader for Windows converts raw to jpg then upload, causing confusing duplicates with your jpgs, it's clearly designed for those who takes ton of snapshots.

Flickr is so dead for me

It's not like with Netflix (price hike eh?) which if you decide to cancel you can't unseen what you've watched; Flickr actually will delete your data if a, you stop paying whatever price they ask or b, they die, I'd rather go self-hosted for that price.

Flickr is so dead for me

Zenfolio looks nice, tried squarespace and I don't like it. These site builders are probably for those who want to share their best works instead of doing auto backup I guess? Flickr tries to be both but really isn't that great for backup either.

Flickr is so dead for me

Yes, those would make a lot of sense for a private backup, but not quite for sharing, especially none offers bbcode embedding, didn't try Dropbox but G/M/A don't do it. I wonder if they're going to do something good with their purchase, I have my membership until late May, with Flickr Pro a...

Flickr is so dead for me

As far as I can tell it's not file name, it has to be actual content of the file, changing exif may do the trick since it'll change the bytes. If the quote from their forum post is true, then not even similar photos will be uploaded, without giving user the option which was coming 45 months...

Flickr is so dead for me

I've been a Flickr "Pro" for a few years now and luckily I still have that cheap subscription running. In case some didn't know, Flickr now has been acquired by a competition and the free 1TB for everyone is gone, and "Pro" membership price has doubled. None of that would be my problem if it...
