So what was your first 2024 image? (Open Thread)

Somehow, I've resisted thus far! The "legacy" elements of the game are designed to reward the same group of people playing the game over and over. As an example, the winner of a game may found a city which provides a bonus in future games only to that player, and the winner of multiple games...

So what was your first 2024 image? (Open Thread)

I spent the weekend hanging out with friends playing board games, so my first image of the year was a mobile one. This was a rather surprising discovery at the very bottom of the box for Risk Legacy.

Your best three images from the last year.

I think that's a good sign! I noted the same thing about my three: one with the GR IIIx, one with the KP, and one with the K1000 and 50/1.8. I was pleased with the variety in technology and medium.

Challenge! Cameraderie Challenge #52 - "Consumerism" WINNER ANNOUNCED

Well it's too bad most of us didn't get to this one, but Miguel's entry was a well-deserved win anyhow! I think we could do with a permanent thread on consumerism, actually!

    Small Sensor Symposium

Pixel 3a shot from today processed in Snapseed. I've noticed the Pixel's jpegs don't take well to Snapseed's sharpening or structure tool, as they're already sharpened up. But the look I think feels "small sensor" in a way, often I think the images end up oversharpened to get rid of detail loss.

    Challenge! A 'Lo-FI' A Day Challenge

I'll close out with this phone shot which I took a couple days ago, and meant to post, but didn't get around to creating any kind of lo-fi edit till now. I tried a grainy, rough film take in Snapseed, and it turned out pretty well, I think. The app has good B&W controls. I enjoyed this...

    Challenge! A 'Lo-FI' A Day Challenge

Did you ever visit the tiny coffee shop that used to be across from the Woolworth building in Medford? I heard it closed some years ago, which made me sad, we enjoyed going there and their coffee was quite excellent. I thought last time I passed it that it might have opened again under different...

    Challenge! A 'Lo-FI' A Day Challenge

I broke out the flatbed, Epson V550, which I like much more for scanning larger things than when trying to get detail out of a 35mm negative. These are a couple Polaroid shots, one color and one B&W. The quality control issues that new Polaroid instant film is somewhat notorious for are on full...

    Challenge! A 'Lo-FI' A Day Challenge

We went into town, I should have brought my GF3/lomo setup to add to this challenge, but my GR was really clamoring to be used again (really, I could hear it, I think). But probably prompted by the mindset this challenge has put me in, I decided to largely use the cross-process filter, which is...

    Challenge! A 'Lo-FI' A Day Challenge

I've read some things about the "vintage digital" look reminiscent of the early 00's, these photos have that "look." Ugly but charming at the same time. I suspect that will grow to become a bit more of a style over time. I have several more shots (including a couple Polaroids to scan) I need to...

    Challenge! A 'Lo-FI' A Day Challenge

The "mirrorless fight" is just about as laughable as the DSLR fight was ten years ago, it's as if every manufacturer agrees to make the same mistakes. Of course on the imaging tech front Sony has driven the quality for years, but I feel like the real original promise of mirrorless is what micro...

    Challenge! A 'Lo-FI' A Day Challenge

I'm personally kind of okay with Pentax not throwing their hat in the ring of ergonomically disadvantaged, slightly too small with slightly too many buttons, EVF instead of OVF, expensive lens stable mirrorless systems. Yes, they might design a truly compelling system, but they might also cede...

    Challenge! A 'Lo-FI' A Day Challenge

Went out for a little while in a state forest spot I know to target shoot a little and attempt to hone my very neglected skills. Found an abandoned boot out there (unintentionally got my own boot in the pic, but I think it's more entertaining that way, so I picked this shot). The rain came...

    Challenge! A 'Lo-FI' A Day Challenge

Occasionally I figure they need a little extra saturation and contrast, depending on how the light at the time is, and how the plastic lens elements respond to it. These ones got a tiny bump in Snapseed, but really very minor. The Lomography lenses produce some really great colors.

I misplaced the SD card I have been using for the GF3 for a few days. I know where it is, now, but now the battery needs charging.
