Film Lens and purchasing advice for Nikon FM2/n

I think you would be happy with an FM2n and a 50mm 1.8 lens to start with. A 35mm AIS or even the 35mm AF lens would work too. I liked the 35mm f2.0 AF since it's light weight and focuses really close. If you would like a nice compact zoom lens the AIS 28~50/3.5 lens is pretty light weight and...

I think that is a good start. Plus, that Pentax MX is a nice camera, very compact. Some of the Pentax primes are pretty nice too from what I remember, but it's been a while. -Thomas

Welcome Steve, take a look at Zeiss ZM lenses or Voigtländer, much more affordable and generally very good quality. The Zeiss ZM Biogon C 35/2.8 is an excellent lens. -Thomas

Film What is the significance of "slight haze"?

The Zuiko 100mm f2 is a beautiful lens although a bit heavy. That one plus the 50mm f2 macro are my two favorites, had and sold both a long time ago :coco:.

Film Metering for color negative film

I absolutely agree with this. It is all about personal preferences and you have to test and determine for yourself what is "best" for you. And like you say, scanning introduces a whole other layer on top of the exposure and film processing. -Thomas

Film Metering for color negative film

A lot of people I've talked to recommend exposing Tri-X at 320, and I heard this well before we had the internet and web "experts". So, it's not a new thing. Box speed is just a starting point IMO. When I used Kodachrome 64 I always exposed it at EI80 instead of the box speed of 64 just because...

Film Is anyone here shooting exclusively film?

I think the question you'd have to answer is "If I lost this camera/lens, would I replace it?" If the answer is no, then there is a candidate for the for sale add. I used this technique recently and pared down my digital kit. So now I use a Fuji X100T and a Sony RX100II, both of these I would...

Film Metering for color negative film

I think it really depends on what you are looking for. Are you looking for the absolute best IQ out of your film or are you shooting to capture a moment? I tend to shoot at box speed since I'm always shooting handheld and benefit from faster shutter speeds. On the other hand, I'd rather expose a...

Film Nikon FE - is this a problem ?

Yes, the FE has that little button you can push to flip the tab out of the way, but you'd have to meter stopped down in manual mode then.
  27. trisberg

Film Nikon FE - is this a problem ?

I believe the tab is used for the body to know the relative aperture you are using on the lens. If it's off by a step or so you might not notice it but if it is off by several steps you would. It should rest against the AI coupling ridge on the lens and follow along when you change aperture.

Film Recommend a place to develop and scan B&W film?

I use Old School Photo Lab and have been pretty happy so far. They aren't the cheapest but they are close by in Dover, NH so shipping time is quick. I've only used them for color but I believe they do B&W as well. -Thomas

    Film OM-4T on the way

The OM-2 and later all use silver oxide batteries, so it's only the OM-1 where you would have to watch out. KEH seems to have a decent inventory and so does Adorama. -Thomas

    Film OM-4T on the way

That 40mm was a sweet little lens, wish I still had mine. My current OM-2N died recently (shutter doesn't fire anymore) so I'm debating what to get now, another OM-2N or an OM-2S or maybe OM-4T, tough choice. I had an OM-4T years ago and really liked the light meter with multi-spot metering...

Film Film 101: Scanner requirements....& basic B+W development

I think a 2400dpi scanner or better would be fine. If you have room and you're handy with computers you could look for an old SCSI dedicated film scanner, get an old PC with a SCSI interface card and set that up as a dedicated scanning station. Both of these should be available at decent cost...
