Temptation in the wilderness
Ironic isn't it? We have an orchard near the house which we prune, feed and generally tend very carefully the yield of fruit again this year approximates...well zero!!! Now today we head down to the creek - about 1/2 a mile from the house and what do we find...
Burning through the fog
Was a relief that it was the weekend so I could shoot in earnest, but it was dreadful weather. Sat in a cloud for most of the day. Just glad I snuck this shot early in the morning as the sun struggled to burn through the fog. It almost made it too...but the cloud...
Zulma
Still feeling under the weather, so my wife suggested a portrait at home. Again, two Canon 580EXIIs fired from my Lumix G3 with an ST-E2 transmitter. Not insignificant amount of post processing.
A study in rust
In the dying light these rusty tins took on a weird hue.
Funny thing to post-process is rust, so much more going on in the colour channels than first meets the eye. So kept the processing down to a minimum with small tweaks to the curves, contrast and saturation....as...
Testing 1, 2, 3, testing
So little personal time to look let alone see.
As I'm reconnecting with my other compadres on the challenge. I thought I'd show how I talk with all you folks. I'm rural so am completely dependant on a wireless connection - not sure what this "ADSL"...
El corillo de Caguas (The Crew from Caguas)
As I went on my nightly sojourn desperately looking for photo ops in the darkness, I came across this happy bunch. They were thrilled to pose.
A very long exposure and another bit of light painting.
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do
Last day of leave today. Back to work tomorrow :dash2: So we thought we'd end on a high note and went for a quick drive to the coast - not a short trip from the farm...but a world away from what's in-store for us tomorrow.
Didn't bag as many...
Mum says if I drink all my nectar I'll be big and brown too one day
OK the PL25 aint really one for macro shots, but I thought this one turned out quite OK - well I more liked it for the story.
Cropped the image a little, to balance the composition, but otherwise you're seeing the...
El amor del gÃbaro II (The Peasant's Love II)
This is a photograph of a mural (graffitti?) in Caguas which I had photographed before, but during the daytime. I used a 15 second shutter speed and light painted over the woman with a flashlight while the shutter was open.
Impressions of the Aussie bush
I'd committed to attempting an impressionistic landscape - without reverting to extreme presets, unsharp masks, drastic noise reduction or the like. So I was going for natural tones and hues that gave that soft landscape look - not so easy with an Australian bush...
Feeling a little under the weather today and the weather was pretty darn low too. We never exited the cloud this morning so it's been drizzle, overcast and windy from dot. I didn't wander far and tried use the elements to my advantage.
Puerto Rican painter, sculptor and performance artist Oscar Mestey-Villamil
As I may have mentioned before, I do some pro bono photography work for the Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art. Mr. Mestey-Villamil has an exhibit that is opening at the Museum on the last week in January. I...
Were those the days?
Awful day outside today, cloudy with rain and then absolute humidity. But a great day inside! I ended up getting to finally look through slides that I found a week or so ago. I stumbled on an interesting little case while tossing out my recycling at a roadside station...
Once again, before I knew it, it was 7pm with no photo to show for the day. Rather than look for another night scene, I decided to show you the third member of the Ramirez household, my son Antonio.
The photo was lit using two Canon 580EXII flash units, stand mounted, one at camera left with...
The chances of anything coming from Mars.
More info on this building: the former offices of Nederlandse Spoorwegen - De Inktpot - is the largest brick building in the Netherlands. The "UFO" (an art object created by Marc Ruygrok, formally called "Zover") featured on its...
Who watches over the watch dog
OK I could have been a little more creative today, but I hit a lull. When I started becoming restless, my partner asked what was the matter and I reminded her that I had to take my photo for the day. She said "why not take a photo of Peggy". "I...
Lights are amber
Our house pump decided it was going on strike without notice first thing this morning. No pump = no water! So after exhausting all known expletives in at least fourteen foreign languages, just before lunch I thought I'd duck into town for anything to effect an interim fix for...
Captive Light
Not much chance for photography today - and not the weather to take on the Grass either...thank goodness!!
Found this image this morning, in the corner of my old garage. Well it was once the garage and is now the dog kennel - OK it's a big 'kennel' but we do have a lot of dogs...
The Girl Without Hands - After the Wedding
In early 2011, I did a series of four photos that I titled "La boda de la niña sin manos" (The Wedding of the Girl Without Hands). The photos were of an interesting looking wedding shop in Caguas. Unfortunately, the shop closed down, and...
Dawn range
Apologies folks but I've had to rely on my safety from first thing this morning. After Round 6 today of Mark vs Grass - I'm just dog tired and so sooooore!
I'd preferred not to upload a dawn landscape, as I've got the other half of this challenge happening when I'm back at work...
This is what happens when all of a sudden, it's 7 o'clock and you have no shot for the day. Got into my car drove to Plaza Palmer and took several photographs of the Christmas decorations (which are still up and lit) and of the trees. I rather like this one, though.
The One Series.
The first Olympus E-series camera, hiding behind the first Olympus PEN. Like an elephant hiding behind a twig. I took this image to show the difference in size, which was the main reason to quit using DSLRs.
Both cameras have been used a lot (and have their battle scars)...
A long hard thirst
Bit of a hypocrite today didn't take my own advice and neglected my safety this morning. Well it ended up quite a big day - being Round 5 of Mark vs Grass. Only just got in at 7pm and all I felt like was a big cold beer. But I made a pact with myself..."you can have...
Lawn dozers
Thought I'd get today's entry in early.
Here's a fraction of my lawn mowing herd. You'd look at the fore- and mid- ground and think they're doing a great job...well I find it curious that I work hard for a few days to mow about 5 acres of our property and that's where they...
At the mercy: small and significant
This was the very last shot on my stroll this morning to secure safeties. There's a lot that can be improved about this image - esp. from a composition and processing perspective - but I thought as it stood it sort of still says exactly what I was thinking...
Portrait of two constant companions
Not much opportunity in the way of photo making today. Was overcast and a little cool so we hit the paddocks for some "hard yakka". Half they day hitting weeds (that will be the subject of another SiJ image) and the other half mowing, and mowing...
Bit of a struggle for my day five. I'd taken my safeties in the morning, and thought they'd do the trick. Busy, then, for the rest of the day with driving to town and then the city to get supplies for humans and horses. With dying light I thought I'd process the day's images and found the...
Stormy today so any photo strolls were short lived without straying too far from the sanctuary of cover.
Like many others have mentioned in the past, I toed-and-froed on which image I wanted to upload to the SIJ gallery. I liked the sense of movement on both images but this one just seemed...
