Yesterday was our first measurable snow of the entire winter, and even then my community only got 1/2" - 1", depending on your elevation. A dole of doves (to use an archaic term) made themselves right at home around our front yard feeders. I haven't been shooting much recently, and it was nice...
No brag, just fact: my wife and I are the proud owners of a local hot spot. Yup, our birdfeeder has been declared "The place to be" by a mob of about 50 sparrows.
Here's an example of the activity:
All the activity has attracted some other attention as well; yesterday what we believe is a...
Another rescued bird who banged into a window, warming up to fly. I have quite a few images from this great camera now, but haven't been able to work on them due to other projects getting in the way. The 800 ISO was accidental, since I was operating quickly and didn't check the settings. At...
Well not so much hunting as sitting at my table and seeing some birds at our feeder.
A bit hazy as our window is due for a good cleaning.

Another hunter showed up, (neighbor's cat)
Playing with my OM-D E-M5 with a Minolta MD Tele Rokkor-X 135mm f/3.5. Nice, compact lens that makes a lightweight combo with the E-M5. It was gray and overcast, and I was shooting moving things through a dirty dual-pane window, so I'm reasonably pleased with the results. No way I could have...
Really felt out of my comfort zone on an overcast day trying to photograph the birds during their flying displays, I used a XC 50-230 for the most part on an X-E1. I under exposed pretty much everything on a piece of advice from a friend that it's easier to recover detail rather than from an...
This is one bird in two poses, and it's obvious that I mirror-imaged one for the paste-up. I needed to use ISO 100 to prevent erosion from noise, since the feather details disappear first. Due to the slow shutter speed (burst shooting helps a lot), you can see that each tail has subject...

This dove was just sitting quietly on my wall.
I decided to see how close I could get, step by step. A couple steps in.
A few more steps, about 5 feet away.
And then he flew away.

This redwing blackbird is my first bird photo with the Panasonic ZS40 in really good lighting (less than an hour before sunset), and although the dark black body color in contrasty lighting is very difficult to reproduce from a JPEG with a 1/2.3 camera sensor, the Panasonic ZS40 pulled it off...
This little bird didn't scamper off quickly as most do when they're approached, so I managed to get within 12-15 feet and get off a few shots. The noise is already apparent in this crop of the original, taken at ISO 80. Noise was mostly due to conditions - bad weather - heavy overcast and flat...
These were taken at about 50 feet distance with the full 720 mm (135 eq.) optical zoom. f6.4, 1/320 handheld, ISO 100. The crop was 2x linear, the lighting was optimal, but the noise is high even though the ISO was fixed at 100. RAW processing should do better.
This is my very first image with the Panasonic ZS40, shooting with the 720 mm zoom (135 equivalent) from about 50 yards away. f6.4, 1/200 handheld, ISO 100.
There are over 30 wild turkeys hanging around. But not for long. They move out during the Summer.
Light sprinkle of snow.

Took Keesha and Jadey out for a walk. I saw a bunch ('murder' just doesn't sound right) of magpies. Actually the magpies saw us first and they started strolling, STROLLING at a leisurely pace to cross the road while making a racket. The local cat, to whom the street belongs to, heard the...
Not the best image quality due to crop and bad lighting/exposure, but I thought the subject was interesting enough to post: f5.8, 1/100 handheld, ISO 80.
Mockingbirds are very common in the South, and within reach of the C-112. If I really wanted better images of this bird, then more patience would allow me to get closer.
The 'Flower', if that's what it is, I saw at the edge of a sidewalk in an abandoned field when taking a walk recently. It...
