So, it's come to my attention that Canon released a mirrorless (not too surprising) and that not only has the price on it plummeted to below half of the initial asking price (far more surprising, as Canon camera costs seem to linger a while).
Now I've played around with and quite enjoyed the...
I was out today taking shots of the Church were my daughter plans to marry in 14 months time, (can't start preparing too early she says)
anyway I was out there with all my expensive DSLR gear taking loads of shots and thought I just take a few 'wide' with my Canon S95, which never has been...
Not a lot of action on the M forum. Too bad. Great camera. The EOS M Flickr group has some of the best images on the web.
I bought one when they were giving them away. Sold it and then bought another new one after I realized that the IQ was simply amazing for the price.
If anyone is...
Ive used my friends g1x and loved it sooo much. But i found a similar one which is the t3i.
The t3is got 18 mega pix while g1x only has 14 but the picture quality is sooo great tho.
Its really great for portrait. But i really dont know about o ther function cuz i havent tried the t3i...
The latest dpreview 5/7/14 in-depth review of the G1X II states several times that "Whole camera pauses for about 1.5 seconds after the shutter release is halfway-pressed".
Anybody owning the G1X II experience this? Under what conditions?
I own the G1X Mark I, and my normal pause as above...

"I purchased my Canon G12 for the exact purpose to take to Mt Everest Base Camp. Due to its compact size, excellent build quality and great features, this midsize compact was for me. My trek to base camp took 14 days walking and for the whole time I took over 1500 photos...
Does anyone have one to loan, rent, or sell? I would even be open to one of those Russian turret finders.
Also, if anyone has used an OVF on the hotshoe of your G series, I'd be interested in hearing about your experience.
Snow visited Troy, NY overnight.
I tried a couple of grab shots in P mode with the G12 and the G1Z MkII
If you look closely at the G1X MkII picture, none of it appears to me to be razor sharp. Call me a lazy photographer, but it seems to me that in P mode at...
I’ve had he Canon G1X MkII for a couple of days now, and I thought I would share my impressions so far.
Fit & Finish
The G1X2 feels solid, dense, heavy. Barely bigger than the G12, it’s noticeably heavier and appears to be mostly made of metal. The hatch cover (on the bottom) for the battery...
Canon G12, ISO 1600, 122mm equivalent, F4.5, 1/20th, handheld . . . using the optical viewfinder!
Straight out of camera jpg
So then I played with it:
Same image, faux HDR processing through Picasa
DXO 9 "Structured B&W"
This is one of the things I like to photograph the most. I grew up in a rural farming community and still like to get back to rural areas and drive around endlessly on the back roads and stumble across gems like this. Within a year or so of getting the photo the buildings and trees are gone...
This is as psyched as I have been about a camera announcement in a long time.
Canon today announced the Powershot G1 X Mark II:
-Significantly smaller size than G1 X
-Omission of the lousy optical viewfinder
-Inclusion of optional XGA electronic viewfinder ($299)...
Just found the first pictures online of the new Canon G1X mark 2. While the specs sound very nice (large sensor, 24-120 lens with 2.0-3.9 aperture) i am a little disappointed that Canon decided to enter the "smaller is better' race by the looks of it (probably to compete with the RX100). I Would...
Less specs and more shots type review. I've looked at some of his other posts as well. The man sees things I can't, beautiful things.
Here's a great and long thread featuring a small Canon compact that to me punches above it's weight.
This link (photorumors.com) has some rumored specs for the G1X Mark II. Highlights include:
5x zoom lens
"Real image" optical zoom viewfinder (???)
20.2MP 1.5" sensor
The article claims the camera will be announced at CP+ in February. I was thinking of getting a...
I took one look at the photos and said: "The defense calls no further witnesses!"
First, a special thanks to entropic remnants (John Griggs) for speaking a wise word in due season. Upon reading his PM, I found myself smacking my forehead and crying out: "Of course! Color depth!" His patient explanation of binary math lead me to discover that my G12 has considerably more color...
I want to sell my whole eosm kit. I bought it all last mid July, 2013 and I never used it outside of my home, and not that often. Everything is in brand new condition and it all works perfectly. I have the original box and all the supplied accessories..The bundle includes the eosm body, the efm...
Canon sent me another check, so I feel obligated to publish some more EOS-M information :) (I'm kidding!)
For those with a morbid curiosity, here is a poorly done video I did showing EOS-M AF speed with EF-M lenses, EF lenses, operation speed and shot-to-shot speed.
IMO, the challenge for the...
Need to do more testing tomorrow, but here's the 60mm 2.0 macro initial tests on the EOS-M. A $200 lens :)
Pics are f/2.0, 2.8 and 5.6.
The spectral highlights are clipped at f/2.0, but round out nicely at 2.8. At 5.6 the get a bit geometric. Hope to shoot more with it tomorrow.
The M continues to amaze me. On a whim, and because prices were so low, I picked up the M+22 in August. Since then, I added the excellent 18-55 the 270 EXii flash (with bounce!) and now the Tamron 60mm 2.0 macro. I also got a Freniec grip.
I can also use my full frame 6D lenses on the M, though...
I'm not sure if this was meant to be serious. I've never seen this site before, but most of the articles seem humorous to me. Of course, I also feel that way about the US Congress.
Yesterday evening, I saw the setting sun illuminating this somewhat unusual cloud, so I dashed inside, grabbed the G12 and shot it. ISO 80, f4, 1/125th second. Shot raw and processed with DXO 9.
Richard Franiec just wrote me to let me know that he is producing a limited number of Canon EOS M grips will be available in the second half of November 2013 for $34.95 plus shipping.
I can attest to the very high quality of Richard's grips, and the EOS M certainly seems like a camera that...
I've been thinking about a Fuji system for a while. Was planning on getting a used XM1 until the whole XM1/XA1 controversy kicked up.
Now I'm thinking maybe I'll just still with my little EOS-M a while.
I compared the Fuji 55-200 vs. the Canon 55-250 STM (3rd gen of this lens). I think I...
How many people assume EOS-M AF is terrible?
Some still, right? But most people would begrudgingly say it's OK for still objects, but only with the firmware mind you!
Well, I wouldn't disagree. But, for still life, landscape, etc. it is fast enough. It's also fast enough for portrait, IMO...
Is it just me or is this camera really slow? We just attended a wedding and most times I was getting photos I didn't want due to the time it took to focus and snap. Not action shots, just folks walking down the isle. I was using it in auto mode, with and without flash. Really...
The price/peformance ratio of this lens is amazing. This would be something that would make the EOS-M a much better system camera with a quite good ultrawide at a bargain price. This lens outperforms a perennial favorite of mine the Tokina 11-16mm in terms of IQ I think.
A few from a week in Lancaster, staying on a farm. Just the EOS-M w/22mm and RX100. Simplicity is so liberating!

Hi guys, as most of you will probably know Canon announced the new S120 just a couple of days ago. Other than a new Digic 6 processor and a slighty faster lens, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the two models. Since the S120 was announced I have already noticed a drop in price...
This is an 11 shot panorama in the English Lake District.
I shot it last October from the back door of my climbing club's hut in the Newlands Valley not far from Keswick
I usually carry Sigma DP2 & DP3 Merrills when I'm shooting panoramas but on this occasion I was travelling ultra-light so...
Just testing around the yard.
The controls are very surprisingly easy to use. The LCD touch screen with just about everything you need. The shutter sound is fabulous. The camera has a nice heft and feel. I don't mind the "soap bar" approach. I always use a wrist strap.
Yes, it's a little slow...
I haven't been home much since I got the new camera on Thursday :D
Have been playing for the last couple days, bit disappointed the box didn't come with the flight manual and I have to look it up onscreen... But then, I never really use them unless there's an emergency :D
Have noticed a...
