Hello all, I originally posted this to another forum, but this is less camera specific, so I thought this community might have some great insight...
By introduction, what I'm trying to do is primarily helping out the Chapel here in Sicily with the streaming setup for their weekly services, but...
Sean Tucker on reproducing the portrait style of Martin Schoeller. A nice technical video on lighting with links to his PS techniques, which I plan to watch tomorrow. I found this very interesting but your mileage may vary.
I'm a sucker for a factory process video - here is the process for making the FP, a surprising amount of manual process (I'd assumed there was much more end to end automation), hand-fitting and testing/QC -
Bonus, Sigma lens manufacturing process - in many ways, this is the more interesting video
Not at all sure whether this will upload, but here's an attempt!
Shot last night of Jason Barnard doing an impressive juggling routine as part of Zip Zap Circus' VOOMA! production
Shot on the Nikon Z6ii with Z70-180 f/2.8
Too bad; didn't work!
Here's a still from it meanwhile
Mods - welcome...
Hi folks! I wonder about this small thing. Have newer liked movie shooting too much. But I am quite fond of going on concerts and occasionally record a part here and there just for memories. And I shoot some documentary things sometimes also. Rarely, I must say, but anyway.
However. These last...
What are the best settings to use for filming a proposal?
Camera - 5D Markiii with 70-200mm EF lens
Shoot is in an open area of a park and the weather will be overcast but bright (filming done secretly from afar)
Any advice would be massively appreciated! (I am last minute jumping in to help...
This is a pretty decent video, kind of long at almost 1/2 hour but some very interesting results, including the A7R V in crop mode compared to the others. I'm not familiar with this reviewer but then I don't watch many of them, maybe some of you know who he is.
The A7S III is kind of irrelevant...
I sometimes use an Olympus LS P4 voice recorder as a video microphone on my Olympus OM-D EM5iii. This picks up ambient sound way better than the camera's built in mic(s).
A friend's just asked me to record a few teaching videos for her clients and I need a lapel mic for the LS P4.
I'm in the...
The most I ever do with video is push the red button and take whatever it spits out. I figure as long as it's as good as my Betamax it'll be fine. :p
I have need for some low light settings that will see limited use. This will be on a Sony A7 IV, but I am assuming (probably incorrectly) that...
I have a box of old 8mm home movies from the '40's through the '60's and want to convert to digital and share with family. Looking at the Kodak REELS or the Wolverine Pro. Anyone have any experience with either of these? I'm leaning toward the Kodak for the added resolution but not sure how much...
I am not sure where to post this, here seemed close. It seemed interesting enough to share to me.
Gerald Undone did a "first look" at a very cool, extremely well designed motion controller. A little pricey to just pick up to play with at $2500 but if you need this sort of thing it looks very...
(N.B. No offense meant! I'm not sure I heard all the lyrics correctly, but I'm certainly not alluding to anyone personally!)
Et ceterum censeo: No pasarán.

I find Thom Hogan interesting, if a bit curmudgeonly. It's an interesting idea that stills photography might be leveling off for many so that all of the new innovations are aimed at video.
After 4 years or so of using V5, I saw that 6 was out. Now with Dual IS on my G9's I get very steady video. That being said sometimes you just need the extra or have to save an important take. 5 was very good, 6 is magic with the AI. I have a 12 core / 24 thread with 12 gig GPU and 3600 mz 64...
My "good glass" (all M43 is good glass if you ask me) is 7-14, 12-35,35-100,100-400. I've also got the 7.5 FE and 60mm Oly macro (which is a fantastic lens). I was going to go for one of the f1.7 zooms and realized heavy and very duplicative of the FOV's I have for my non-PRO use. So I've been...
I have my G9/Oly 60mm videoing hundreds of small American House Spiders (Achaearanea tepidfariorum) leave the egg sac. Although I am buying a new camera in October (now vacillating between the OM1 and Gh6), I will be keeping my 2 G9's. Why? because I know them and find them to be the perfect...
First time out with the OM-1 for video. I took 68 videos on Saturday, 1920x1080 at 60fps in 'normal' colour. Indoors, auto ISO ranging from 400 to 5000 (as the day progressed and the light started to fade) and the subjects were dancers. I used the 12-40 pro II, mostly at the 12-20mm range, and...
Any insights, lessons learned or other teachables, or resources from the action camera crowd, as to setting up, must haves other than the camera and such?
I have been pondering getting one of these for (perceived) ease of use, even though I have a lot of Lumix gear which probably blows the...
For many years, both for fun and professionally I used Vegas. In late 2021 I changed to Resolve Studio PRO with the speed editor. Retired and just doing video for me, I wanted a couple of things I couldn't get in Vegas, but was leery of changing after so many years using Vegas. That fear turned...
I like the parallel between Leica cameras and his Air Jordans: the shoes don't make him a better player, but he has more fun playing.
Personally, I think, I too have gotten to the point of having too much gear ( ) and it either sits unused or gets in the way...
This time it's the OM-1 vs. the Canon R3 for shooting a hockey game. Even though the R3 clearly has a huge advantage being a camera aimed at this kind of work, it was an a great review of what the OM-1 can and can't do well. The also note that the lens/body kit is about $3800 USD for the OM1...
For English turn on the captions. This is a German produced video channel that has some very well-made short features. I have been following them for about a year.
It is not pro-Nazi, as far as possible their channel seems to be politically neutral and anti-war. (although the comments in their...
Doesn't seem to be a generic video share thread for random stuff so I thought I'd create one.
I'm a complete newbie so I claim no expertise or know-how on this subject.
Anywho, I had my GH3 with Oly 60mm macro for some bee-shots ready to go but the bees were being so obliging I thought I'd...
I just got one of these devices to test.
It is uncanny Chinese engineering so far ahead of ANYTHING I have tried that it makes EVERY DSLR , Rangefinder or Video/Photo device totally obsolete.
It is like stepping off a Douglas DC3 into a Boeing 787
It is beyond amazing. The USA is doomed. We...
I just read that the agreement between AP and Sony will result in most of their photographers getting a pair of A9II bodies and the videographers getting a pair of A7RIV bodies. Being video challenged, I would have expected the A7SIII bodies to be for video. Comments from the video cognoscenti?
One thing that is stopping my camera body GAS is current emphasis on video. I gather the stills side of things has plateaued for while, at least in terms of advances and profits for the camera makers. I'm not a video guy and when I need video clips of the grand kids the old iPhone comes out...
If anyone is interested, Pentax is going to air a pre-recorded web conference covering products that were to be showcased at the CP+2020. Friday, noon, Japan standard time.
Announcement here: CP+2020 | RICOH IMAGING
Will update with a link to video if I can find it.
I like to ask this periodically. What do you actually do with the video capabilities of your camera? I know that I never really use them and they never make a difference in a camera purchase except as a resale feature. If I want a quick video, I pull out my iPhone. It's really that simple...
Sirui is releasing a new, very affordable Anamorphic lens in native mounts for Fuji X, M 4/3, Sony E, and Z Cam. This will be a big game changer for filmmakers and cinematographers. Anamorphic lense can get highly costly. And adapting them a major headache. Having a native mount lens where you...
Watching some photo videos yesterday (after viewing the Fiona Lark vid), this popped up in the recommendations. I found it interesting, and a bit funny in a couple spots.
I am starting to make short (<15 minute) videos of various topics/problems in my chemistry courses for students to use outside of class. (There are already videos like this out there, but there is enough diversity in presentation to confuse students who are trying to understand something...
Shot off tripod. Trees obscured part of lower sky. Had troubles with getting slo-mo to work (note to self: bring small flashlight so you can see the dials!). Need to figure how to get faster autofocus lock-on, but still, pleased with initial result.
All feedback welcome.
Cheers, Jock
Different video editor, differing editing, different music.
Luke, you can probably ID the music -- no cheating with one of those auto-apps!
Better, maybe?
Cheers, Jock
My 2011 21.5-inch iMac with i7 chip, 8GB of RAM and 1TB HDD is beginning to slow down but still works. However, it can no longer be updated to the latest Mac OS. Given its age, it's probably time to replace it.
But my budget is not unlimited and cannot handle a completely maxed out 2019...
Back in the UK after 6 weeks in NZ & Australia. Took a Panny FZ2000 with me for general shooting and video. I used it more than the Ricoh GR and Sony A72 in the end.
The video was created in Adobe Premier.
Music (Fire Starter) from Prodigy; such a shame that front man Keith Flint died last...
Took this video a couple of days ago with the Panasonic FZ200. Gulls at Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coat.

Well, I have my X-U, and I really love it so far!
As you may know from my earlier posts, I vowed to be one of the first people not connected with Leica to shoot underwater with the X-U, so I come to redeem my promise :).
I'm not going to say this is a pretty image, but to my eye it shows an...
Hi there! First time poster, but in searching for this issue I can't find anyone else here posting on it.
I've had my Sony RX100 Mark IV for a few months now, and generally love it. But when I use it for video in full auto mode, I see exposure issues with almost every shot. I can only describe...
