I’m trying to decide about a used Fuji 100-400, a new Sigma 100-400 x mount, or none of the above. Any experience, thoughts or random speculation would be welcome. Uses will mainly be birds and wildlife near my rural abode.

I have a theory what this might be and welcome the thoughts of others.
A shot taken with another camera:
Both shots are unretouched, straight out of camera.

I can't believe there's no thread about this lens yet, so I'm starting it!
I just got back from a week-long trip to visit my grandkids in Washington State, and I took them again to NW Trek, a large wildlife park that we drove through this time. It was a bit frustrating, because I hadn't...
Help! My M1mk2 suddenly no longer has zoom in playback. It worked good the last time used. I've run out ideas on how to recover short of doing a full reset, and I hate that. Firmware 3.1. I removed the battery and replaced with a new fresh one-no help.
Hello! I found a used first-gen OM-D EM-5 on MPB (my first M43 camera!). What's a good zoom lens in the 24-70mm FF-equivalent range? Not a pro so don't need anything too fancy. Thanks!
Here are some words that come to mind, when I think of a superzoom, in roughly this order: fun, zoomy, miraculous, versatile, compromised, frustrating, disappointing. But I still went and touched the hot wire! Feeling equally bored and inquisitive, I recently bought a used HS30EXR to play around...
I sometimes spend large amounts of money to travel to faraway place to take exotic photos . . . NOT!
The spotter-in-chief and I spent a pleasant afternoon in the side yard. Some years ago, a neighbor gave us a handmade bird house that looks like a chapel. We mounted it on a pole, and...
The better half and I were walking on the North side of Peebles Island, NY, when we saw a group of about a dozen guys coming the other way. "Have you seen any eagles?" my wife asked. No, they had not.
We had just passed them when one called: "Ma'am? There's a hawk right there." He points. Not...
Good Afternoon,
This is a cross-post from "Wildflowers"; it is a full-frame lens that goes to 1/2 life-size because of the extended helical. These were shot at f5.6.
Regards,
Edd
I sent an email off to Peak Design to ask about one of their wrist straps. I want to use it as a safety strap in case the camera gets knocked out of my hand or dropped. I asked them if it was long enough to connect to the tripod mount on a zoom so there wouldn't be excessive weight on the lens...
Quick walk at Frear Park in Troy, NY. As we are strolling, I said to the Spotter-in-Chief, "These skies look fake; like some artist's idea of what a sky should look like when he has no real idea."
Cheers, Jock
Ospreys -- waaaaay the heck out there, at an estimated 300 yards on an abandoned bridge pier.
RX10 Mk4 at full optical and digital zoom vs. HX400v also at full optical and digital zoom.

HX400V:
All shots SOOC jpegs, handheld.

4 am. The spotter-in-chief, returning from the bathroom, says, "Look out that window . . . "
A full moon, clouds scudding across it . . . a highwayman's moon!
A lyric springs to mind:
As I was a-goin' over the Cork & Kerry Mountains
I met with Captain Farrell, and his money he was countin'...
Here's the old nest, abandoned (on Goat Island, across from Peebles Island, NY):
The new nest, seen from the bridge:

Three panoramas shot today at "the cloud factory" . . . the overlook at Oakwood Cemetery. First two shot vertically oriented. Stitched together with ICE. All three romanced just a little with DXO9.

In the lightening sky this AM at full optical and digital zoom with a ton of exposure compensation rolled in.
SOOC:
Romanced with Luminar 3:
Here's what the first shot, with my usual -.3 exposure comp, looked like:
And, just for fun a few minutes later, the "foul weather camera" (Oly...
The first thing you need to know is my better half, aka spotter-in-chief, is one-eighth Mohawk native American. She looks about as native as, say, an Irish step dancer, which is to say not at all. There are times, however, when she exhibits freakish distance vision and preternatural awareness of...
A couple of panoramas, stitched together with ICE and shot different days at the overlook at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, NY.
Cheers, Jock (unrepentant sky junkie)
