Leica 35mm ASPH Summicron

carlb

All-Pro
I've decided to try the 35mm ASPH Summicron as a lens for scenic storytelling. That's much of what I like to shoot, so this is an important lens choice to me.

35mm gives a somewhat wide angle of view, and I'm interested in this particular model to see what can be pulled toward character, sharpness, and at times bokeh.

For absolute sharpness, the 35mm f2 M-mount Zeiss slightly edges out the Leica. But not so much as to matter much. Toward character and bokeh preferences, nothing jumps out at me just yet. Here are a few shots so far:

Question: what other 35mm lenses could I be trying for character?

The Nikkor 3.5cm F2.5 and Summaron 35 F2.8 are both 1-2-2-1 Planar formula lenses, the Nikkor has higher-contrast. Both have "swirly Bokeh". If you like a Summitar, give them a try.

"Bang for the Buck", smooth Bokeh- the 35/1.7 Ultron is hard to beat.

The Nikkor 3.5cm F3.5- tine, inexpensive, classic Tessar formula based on the 3.5cm F3.5 Elmar- but hard-coated optics.
