The Japanese site dc.watch interviewed Fujifilm manager Kosuke Irie and Shinya Fujiwara. They talk about film simulations in a lengthy, very detailed and technical way. All in Japanese, which means we are in the hands of google translate. And sadly this does not always work out well. I will share a summary for you down…

This is very much the kind of thing I would expect them to say. It says a lot about their approach to photography.

'Gradation' has to be in balance? Like, there could be too much of it? maybe a translation issue.

I like how they say classic neg is "a bold emulation for a bold camera" i.e. X-Pro 3. They know themselves.

Many interviews come off as marketing. This one just didn't appear that way to me. This is a guy talking about cars at a bar. It's this really nerdy approach to film simulations which Fuji seems to value far more than anyone else. I perceived genuine passion for their work, and I enjoyed that in a company. Unlike Kodak, they made a very successful transition form being a film company to a more diversified corporation. They also found an interesting way to reinvent what they used to do.
