a weekend in the Redwoods

This winter definitely lives up to the wet reputation that the Pacific Northwest has :) So when the forecast for the Thanksgiving weekend predicted sunny days, we decided to make the most of it and drive down to Northern California. Very glad we did, we had a wonderful two days.

Most of the shots were taken with the Olympus E-M1 and the 12-60mm, there's also some with the 50mm f2 and the Samyang/Rokinon/Bower 7.5mm (on the E-M5)
Forests are always tricky to photograph. It's much darker than you'd think (most of my shots were ISO 1600) and the scene-contrasts are huge. Anyway - without further ado: :)

Yeah that set isn't bad... *goes off to find the Nominate for Featured Post thread*
Really, really nice work here. I've seen a bazillion sets from the redwoods in the past 5 years of photo forum visiting, and I can say with certainty that this is the best one I've seen. Well done!

[Edit] I looked for a Nominate thread or button, but the only link I found, at the bottom of the Forums page, leads nowhere...

Cool stuff! When I saw the first shot I almost didn't want to scroll, as I thought the rest wouldn't be as good (it really hit me!). I was wrong. I like it how they are all different to each other, but still work together. Great job.

Thank you Tuukka! Yes, I've found my love for close-up and detail shots over time. They are a great addition to the wider "big-picture" shots and help you to remember the mood and feel of a place.

you should be able to figure it out...
Beautiful work, as I always know to expect when I open one of your threads. As much as I love the east coast, there are times I REALLY miss the west. From the mountain states out to the Pacific, there's just soooo much amazing natural beauty. And I lived out there long enough to really have immersed myself in a lot of it, and sometimes I just miss the hell out of it. Seeing photos like this both help and don't.

Thank you for all your kind words, Luke, Antonio, Ray, Sue and Jock!
And Sue, you have to imagine that picture of Marshall Pond with some gentle (yet slightly annoyed) "quack, quack, quack" and "honk, honk, honk". :) A popular place with water birds (and not so many humans), you could hear their calls following us when we walked on the path around the pond :)
