Stroll Abandoned

Oh well,
Here's a panorama from the Packard Plant:

What's the story here, Miguel?
I find it interesting and possibly depressing at the same time.

I honestly don't know since none of the neighbors or local inhabitants were around to ask, when I took the picture.
But my guess is: often, people simply take various objects (often furniture but occasionally random possessions) that they no longer want - and are 'giving away' - and leave them on the sidewalk in front of their house, in the hopes that someone will come by and take them. Often the objects or piece or furniture is accompanied by a 'FREE' sign. In this case, it was several suitcases - in very new condition - and, behind the tree, some small pieces of furniture. Also worth noting is that in the last few days, more leaves have fallen from trees than in the preceding few weeks. So...
So, all in all, your guess is as good as mine, Craig.

The first homesteaders/settlers arrived in this area of Northern MN around the early 1900's, to a land that was marginally fit for crop farming.
Those hardy folks that cleared the land of the stumps left from logging of the forests, were able to eke out a living until around 1950 when they too
were forced to move closer to the industrial and mining areas, leaving the land idle for a time. These abandoned barns are quite a common sight now
and the land is mostly occupied by folks who raise a few beef cattle to sell in the fall, but make their main living at day jobs in the surrounding towns and
industries. Some of the old homes are still lived in, but the barns are left to deteriorate and melt into the ground.
This particular barn may have been purpose built for chickens.

Don't know what this structures intended use was...it is part of an old smelter in Silver City, Utah and long since abandoned. Liked its unusual shape and openings and is a target rich site for artist of some ilk!

Shape and strength speak to some kind of blast resistance. Whether a safety shelter or storage building for explosives, who knows?

Nice photos.
