Adobe price structure changes

I'm surprised no one started a thread about this. There will new pricing structure as of Jan 15, 2025 but it will not effect most of the existing customers. There was a bit of confusion when first announced so I thought I post to explain what is actually happening.

It would be really nice it the Adobe haters stayed out of this one this time. It is really not juicy enough to get into the same old arguments. Both sides have heard them all. Maybe next time Adobe will do something where you can press the I told you so button. Thanks 🙂

I pay $10 monthly and my annual plan renewed last month. I have nothing to worry about until Nov, 2025. I then have to make a decision. If I choose to continue to pay monthly monthly then my price will go up to $15 a month. So $180 for a year. If I choose to pay annually up front then the price will be $120.

Something I don't think has been mentioned very often. If at anytime over the next 11 months I decide to start paying annually up front it won't cost me anymore. For example in May I decide I want to pay up front for the whole year I can make that change. My new cycle will start from May 2025 and go to May 2026. I won't be penalized for the months of June to November. So inevitably I'm going to start paying up front for the whole year at some point. I'd just be starting it earlier. Might be helpful to do that a few more months before December holiday season.

This is from Adobe's site. 3rd item.

This video does a good job explaining it.

Just to add to Matts video about the Lr only plan going up $2. I've read/heard Adobe will be offering an LrC and Lr - 1TB plan. No Photoshop. This plan will also be $120 year. I have not sent file to PS since LrC 11 so I may look into it. It might be time to start exploring cloud storage for my travels.

I have Affinity I paid $25 for which is now useless as it won't support my cameras. However it will fill the gap for the limited uses I do have for PS these days. I can always open a TIFF in Affinity if I need to but I don't see that happening.

I've been a PS user since version 4 (paid that is), and my renewal for photographer is in September, I will do the year payment in August. However, every other year I do update On1 (which is actually pretty good with 2025 on my computer (AMD 9950x/64gb DDR 5/Nav 4070 TI Super/4 TB PCIE boot) just as a safety valve in case the prices go way up.

ON1 has been on the the top area of my list for a post Adobe life if that ever happens. I've read good things about 2025. I started I think with PS2 or 3 and I always got the upgrades. That included LR as well when I got in 2011.

The other day in another forum I read that someone's plan was expiring on Feb 1 and Adobe did send them the email. Still does not hurt to add that to the calendar. I'm up in November but that and December can get a little more expensive so I might make the leap a few months earlier. It won't cost me anymore. I'll just start something that will inevitably happen.

As we know today's the day where the $9.99 a month plan is no longer available for new customers. I see it is on sale for the first 6 months.

As stated earlier the Lr only 1TB plan that was also $9.99 a month is now $11.99 a month. However as expected Adobe did add LrC to that plan. So for any new customers that aren't interested in PS they can still get pretty good pricing. Still comes with Portfolio, etc.

Went for the year up-front thingy at the local price of €140ish, with a bit of assistance from someone on the adobe help-desk yesterday. I have horsed around with it since before LR 3.8 or something along those lines and I do like the DAM bit so I haven't any notion to ditch and start a-fresh.

Me neither, Jens.

At my age, with my health problems, I even contemplate that monthly payments might be cheaper over the (part) year!

However, I will pay annually when my current subscription comes up for renewal in July (?).

It's a shame that Adobe doesn't offer just a Bridge, ACR, Photoshop plan, similar to the old one, without all the Lightroom stuff, for the same money. That is to say, an either or situation. They seem to be forcing Lightroom on everyone, whether one wants it or not.

I have no use for Lightroom. I just cannot get my head around it.

So, I had better not let my current licence lapse.
A month before y

You will get an email from Adobe 30 days before your plan is up.

That's the theory, thanks.

Why don't I trust Adobe to get it right?

I've put a note in my calendars to remind me ...

Belts and braces man, where computers are concerned!
No theory. I've already read of one person who's annual plan is coming up who got an email. I have the link to this page (below) and took a screenshot. I also put in my calendar as I do that with everything anyway so not a bad idea.

There is also this. Some people jumped the gun and signed up early. They lost their redemption credits not sold by Adobe. These are the ones you can buy if there is a deal and stack it to your plan. This his person called Adobe about that.

Post #140. Good reference for the future.

When I switched over from monthly to annually, apparently I had a month left on my current plan. The day after I paid for my annual plan, Adobe sent me email saying that a refund for that last month was on its way and I got it the next day. I didn't even know I was entitled to that. Adobe is trying to make the best of a sour situation.

You aren't the first and they are stepping up. That's why I'm not concerned about switching over earlier.

Ken, I think that Adobe, for all their faults, really do try to behave pretty well.

Before they introduced the subscription payment system, it was estimated that there were far more pirated copies of their software than genuine ones.
No company can continue to exist with that happening.
