Last Saturday (5 nov), I went on a small hiking trip with a fellow camera fiend.
It was a bit of an off-the-cuff thing;
"Wanna go to Hürtgenwald this weekend?" "Sure".
It kind of spiraled out of control from that point. I remember drinking a lot of beer, eating a lot of pizza and schnitzels and playing too much Playstation 4 and not getting enough sleep.
Anyway, I'll stick to our Saturday spent in the German Eifel area.
The Kall Trail is a winding forest path between the towns of Vossenack and Schmidt. It was the only (barely) traversable route for American tanks during the 5 month battle of Hürtgen forest. The area is littered with old foxholes and other signs of war.
Leica M-E with Voigtländer 35mm f/1.7 Ultron:
1. Leaving Vossenack and entering the Kall valley
2. Moss
3. Slate
4. Coffee break
5. Sherman track
6. Oakleaf (crop)
7. Mestrenger Mühle
8. Nearly back at Vossenack (crop)
Leica IIIc with Leitz 5cm f/2.5 Hektor:
9. Kall Bridge
10. Tank Tracks
Along the walk it became clear I'm really not used to shooting a 35mm like the Ultron at all. I needed to constant reposition myself closer to the subjects to adjust the composition. I'll need to play with it some more before I grow comfortable with it, or just stick to 50mm/75mm lenses.
