amazon and camera returns

sorry for asking what i am sure by now is basic knowledge, but does amazons 30 day return policy ally to digital cameras that are posted as 'sold by amazon'?

and btw OT, as a 'newbie' can someone explain purpose and use of the forum's 'thanks' option?

Why not look at their website, or ask amazon?

i looked at amazon and its not clear, at least to me. i would have a lot more confidence spending several hundred dollars if i heard from someone with personal experience that digicams are returnable.

and i got a couple of 'thanks' for posted pictures, so i'm not sure still of the purpose and i dont want to use it incorrectly.

I'm fairly certain that "sold by Amazon" carries the same guarantees and protections as if you actually got it from Amazon, but I would ask their customer service or help desk to be certain.

The thanks button is to say thank you or that you like a post. It's just a general, all purpose positive reinforcement.

Like Luke, I think you'd be covered too, but ...

Where several hundred dollars are at stake, I'd want to know directly from the vendor concerned rather than rely on what someone on a random website says.

After all, Luke (or I) could be mistaken or the policy could have changed or we might just be being stupid or even malicious!

I think it varies by the actual dealer. If its Amazon that has it in stock and you're getting it directly from them, you get their full 30 day return policy. If you buy from, say, Adorama or Beach Camera or someone else via the Amazon web-site, you're then limited by the return policies of Adorama or Beach or whoever the actual dealer is. It probably varies by dealer, but I'd check very carefully before you hit the "buy" button. I remember getting something a while ago (I don't think it was even camera related) and the dealer was NOT Amazon, which I don't even think I realized when I bought it, and they had a 30 day return period but some huge re-stocking fee. I remember arguing with them to no avail. So if its not directly through Amazon, I'd be pretty careful, even if its via their website...

yeah, i think thats correct ray. i did have a 'chat' with an A rep who said i'm covered for 'whatever' A-.com sells. i specifically got my item on record, and he confirmed it can be returned w/in 30. i had him send me a transcript so that i have it on record. just ordered the oly xz-2 now. will rpt on it after ive had a good go at it. thanks to all.

Everything bought from Amazon, including from Amazon Marketplace, is covered by the same policy. The individual vendors have no say about it. It's enforced by Amazon. Since Amazon is the payment processor, if worse comes to worse, Amazon will simply not pay the vendor and refund the customer.

Do it enough times and you will be banned from Amazon for life. So only return when you really need to. Amazon is not a good vendor to use for people that like to buy and try.

I believe if you buy a lot, you are given more latitude with the number of returns. I've returned literally tons of stuff, but also spent tons. No fuss from Amazon, yet.
