Just curious if anyone here in the film forums would be interested in a pass-around of the Reto Ultra Wide and Slim?

Would likely be lower 48 US only, to help minimize shipping expense/ time and potential customs issues/ costs.

Use it for a month and send it to the next person on the list.

I expect at some point the cheapness would win and it would break/ fail.

Would others be willing to replace the broken with new and keep the pass-around going until everyone is done? Or just do a use it until it breaks and let the pass-around go the way of the camera?

edit - this plastic unfantastic but oddly fun little thing...

Fascinating prospect, but I move through film too slowly. I’d send this to the next person on the list 2-3 years later.

LOL - yeah I'd hope a month would be easy enough for some folk to run a roll or three through. Any longer and people might start losing interest. Not sure this will go anywhere anyways. 🤣

Intriguing. So is the idea to shoot a roll within a month and then pass the camera along? Then develop and print and then...upload (some of) the finished results?

Pretty much. If the interest is there, we'd have a list in this thread. I'd send it to the first person. Use the camera for approximately a month, then that person contacts the next person and sends it onward. Have the film developed on your time schedule, then post some results and impressions if so inclined in the thread.

I'd consider the month a guideline. We all shoot at our own paces. If you just want to shoot one roll and get it done in a week and want to move it on, that's fine. If it takes you 5 weeks to finish a roll, that's fine as well. I'd hope for something close to a month at most as if things stretch out too much people might lose interest. Of course if most people in the thread think a month is too short to shoot a roll, we can certainly revisit the timeline.

Count me in.

... I like games like this...
I watched a video about it and now I have a “problem”!

I'm already at a "disadvantage" during this time...

I think it's great, but I don't want to wait!

With a little "help" (of the river) I would have the "thing" on Friday, ideal for the weekend
By the way, it's funny that the camera weighs 68 g... the waterheads of the EU administration always demand a "price per kilo" so that "everyone" can make
a comparison as a consumer . .
At around 70g it should be 420 € per kilo, since it is quoted at less than half that "of the river", I will order one...

Do the conditions also provide for independent use?
Since the costs of shipping in the States are not that important, but across the continents they already exceed the price of the camera, it would be in the interest of the competition to do some plate tectonics... I would then send it to the Netherlands, Belgium or France . . Uk for example...

Fredric, I think it'd be great if our friends in Europe can participate if they would like. Thanks for picking this up. 🙂 I'll adjust the thread title to reflect.

As for rules, they can be the same or it can be run in a manner that makes best sense for Europe.

Not exactly sure what you mean by independent use? If you or someone else has one and want to use it independent of the pass-around, I think we can start a Reto UWS thread where all can post images, thoughts, etc...

Hey gordo, I'm happy that you agree to my suggestion.
I'm ordering a Slim35 today for circulation on the old continent ;-)

independent use?
Yes, by that I meant "putting into circulation" an independent "second" camera here in Europe. I wanted to wait for your approval for that.

I'm looking forward to the first pictures

The full automatic fix focus daylight "Ultra WiDE SLIM " in light blue has arrived

It is a "22mm F11 Fix Focus" with a classic doublett achromatic 2 Lens system

Hey gordo,
I've been working a bit with the "camera".
It has 1/125 fixed time, it has a fixed aperture F11.
If you look up for the light value LW/EV on any table, the value is 14! That's why it's called a "Daylight Camera".
The real "problem" is not the light or the light value, the handicap is the complete lack of options for changes.
That's why I was looking for a film that had as wide a spread of the error ellipse as possible when under or over exposure in order to get a respectable photo.
Slides are canceled due to the smaller contrast range; with negative film, a black/white HP5 with 1 aperture "comfortability" would be an option.
Unfortunately, you then have to develop it yourself, which wouldn't be a "problem" if you hadn't already sold the analogue "chemistry laboratory".
To show it, I set the Sony to 1/125 with setting S and set the 24mm (instead of 22mm) Canon FD to the fixed aperture f11.
Today I was "lucky" the cloud cover broke up and there was some "sun" around midday.

Today 14:00 covered

So it is very difficult to get the correct exposure just depending on the lighting conditions
This could also be precisely why so few have registered for the “test” so far

At least it is now clear that the Sony sensor needs cleaning

Similar shots in bright Arizona mid-day sun (2 cameras, 2 films, same spot, same day). Crappy scanner, no exposure or color correction done. With better scanning there would be a bit more latitude in correcting the images for better exposure and color IMHO. Haven't tried B&W film yet, nor ISO100. B&W should minimize the color shift to the edges of the images.
