Any plans for 2018?

Last christmas I tried to make a plan for what photography gear I was looking to get/replace in 2018. After some years going through a lot of gear I wanted to try putting a damper on my GAS, and I've mostly stuck to it!

I wanted to cut away things I wasn't using anyway and I managed to sell off my Panasonic GM5 with lenses.
I wanted to mainly focus on my DP2 Merrill and it has indeed been my main camera of 2017.
It's been quite liberating and at the same time gotten me a lot of images I'm very happy with.
I expected my only camera purchase to be the Ricoh GR mk3, but since it's still not announced that obviously didn't happen. I did manage to pick up a Sigma DP3 Merrill from Ebay with the money I got for my GM5, happy with that trade.

For 2018 my intentions are pretty much the same. The DP2M I expect to be my main camera with the DP3M and Ricoh GR for when I need a different focal length.
I'm considering selling off my dp2Q as I prefer the DP2M, both the files and the size of the camera. Also considering selling my Pana FZ1000 since I hardly ever use it, but we'll see.

The only purchase I'm expecting is if Ricoh delivers a GR mk3 or alternatively Fuji manges to come out with a good successor to the X70 (24mp sensor and 4K video please). That being said, I'm hoping for something amazing to suddenly be announced out of nowhere to give higher image quality at low ISO than my Merrills at a low cost, not holding my breath though :)

How about the rest of you?

Happy holidays

More shooting opportunities and always optimizing both my photo storage and post-production workflows. I am now easily approaching 1 TB of photos (Mix of RAW, LR edits and ready to publish copies), plus I just found all my old film and slide archives in a garage cleanup. So between taking more time in the field and improving my RAF and now CR2 editing, I'll probably be scanning some of the few keepers from film days. Lots to keep busy without GAS. :D

A couple of months ago I would have said, new GR mk3 with electronic viewfinder. Yes please.
But the Xpro2 is ticking all my boxes right now. Main focus for 2018 is to keep breathing and earn enough
to keep Buster in roast chicken and tuna steaks.

Don't have any gear purchases in mind, just some field trips to places I've never visited. I just sold one camera, and I'm trying to sell a bit more, just to cull the herd, so to speak. I've been guilty far too often of focusing on gear, and I'm trying to curb that tendency.

I have no purchase plans. Travelled a LOT this year snapping thousands of pictures but not had the will to process any of them. Honestly feel the more photographs I've shot this year the sloppier I've got or I've lost my mojo. Next year I'm taking it easy - 'cept in January when I will be running around demented trying to be creative. But the following 11 months I'm taking it easy!!!

I'm all set for gear, so no new planned purchases. Hopefully, I will photograph a lot more in 2018 that I did in 2017. I have not taken a single photograph for pleasure since mid June. That had never happened before. I'm hoping SIJ 2018 will pull me out of this funk.

Plans for 2018...?

1: SIJ with a GX85 O45mm f/1.8 combo (SOOC B&W JPEGS)

2: 52 Challenge with the GRII (SOOC B&W JPEGS)

3: Lots of aerial photography with the DJI Spark I received from my lovely wife yesterday.

No new purchases on the horizon, I feel content with my current cameras and M4/3 lens selection. I also figure that GAS will take care of any unexpected developments anyway... :D

In 2017 a broken integrated amplifier cut deep in my fun money, since now I didn’t only have to replace that amp but to get the best out of that also get the new speakers I’d been planning to get for some while. I am having tons of fun listening to my music collection again, and photography took the back seat. Thing is, I find my current photo gear fun to use (two sets: Em1 with 12-40, 40-150 and 25 pro lenses which I don’t use enough, and Pen-F with 12, 17, 45 and 75 primes which I use a lot more). I’m just in doubt about one camera. I’ll use SIJ2018 to see if the LX100 can be the briefcase cam it was supposed to be, or if that one could use replacement. Other than that, I think I’ll wait until something else fails.

I have too much equipment, yet not enough:D I have Canon, Olympus, Fuji, and the Sony RX 10 III. But I don't have an ultra wide angle, which I quite like, for any system. Last summer I rented the Fuji 10-24 and liked it. But I'm unsure if I want to go in that direction or get an UWA for the Oly or Canon. I do have three trips booked, Maroon Bells, CO, New Orleans, LA, and Great Smoky Mtns. Hoping to be healthy and remain thankful.

  1. Get rid of the Canon G7 X
  2. Get rid of the Panasonic GM1 + 12-32mm and 35-100mm lenses
  3. Buy the Sigma DP2 (and/or DP3) Merrill
  4. Fight hard not to buy anything else (especially Ricoh GR III if one is coming...)

I've become fairly content with my stable of gear. I'm only thinking about upgrading the A7RII to the III.... I'd like faster af as I have a new granddaughter last month, but that's all really, for the rest of the time my stuff pretty much meets all my needs. I have a trip to Venice planned in May as I (hopefully) will reach the grandma's age of 60 in September! I photograph less on a daily basis than I ever used to, sometimes weeks go by but I do enjoy the editing part so that keeps me occupied.

I am looking for photographic viagra. Mentally and physically.....I am just not there. I am sort of interested, but I just cannot be bothered to do what I have done since 2011. I think I love who I WAS (in photo terms) but now I am not sure I can spend the rest of my life with me as I am NOW. I do a bit of street now and again....and i have half heartedly started a video/stills street project. I must give my backside a kicking to make use of what I learned when I was fixated with photography.....as well as properly keep & archive/delete the stuff I have on my numerous 1 and 2 Terabyte drives.
