I don't know about you, but as is common for the end of the year, I'm thinking quite hard about what to do with some of my gear - and I'll probably let go of quite a healthy portion of it. But the stuff I intend to keep, I also intend to use.

I'd love to have the opportunity for some hardcore minimalist shooting again - looking at the images others take is always inspiring and great fun, and the approach of using restrictions to further one's image taking skills resonates with me.

Anyone in?

Nice! We'll be a few, then - I'll have to decide on the strategy (compact vs. system, zoom (in the compact) vs. prime - probably the latter, I already have half a plan ...).

Keep'em comin', folks :)

Could be the perfect excuse to get back both into photography and Serious Compacts (the forum, not the gear). I have been completely inactive in both for a few months, hurricanes and life in general having presented some obstacles this year. As to gear, we'll just have to see... Count me in as well.

Cheers,

Antonio

I'm going to say a qualified yes. I enjoy SiJ but I do in all conscience have a lot going on at the moment; Queen's Wayfarers #2 to finish, learning Italian and two companies to run, both of which I started this year.

So, I'm in, but I might be first out..!

I've been in the last 2/3 years, and am putting myself forward again for the next one but will be in some far flung places where internet is not necessarily a given. May be a bit of posting in arrears.

Certainly not a problem - even when I have access to the internet, I sometimes can't afford the time to do post processing, so may take a day or two (or more) between posts. I'll *try* to post every day this, though - and to this end at times resort to using Polarr to speed things up (less capabalities, faster workflow).

Definitely count me in. I still look back on some of the images from last year.
But I think this year different camera/lens combo

Well, I'll either go old or new: Nikon 1 V1 with 18.5mm f/1.8 prime or Canon G1X III; I'm leaning towards the former - but since I carry the latter anyway, I would like to get the most out it.

On the other hand, the V1 would fit the spirit of the whole affair a lot better. And it's actually a very reliable little camera.

I could even pick the Panasonic GF1 with 20mm f/1.7 - but that'd be sort of more of the same :) :mu43: have figured prominently in my first couple of SiJs) - and I did "outdated" in 2017 (the Canon S95). On the other hand, the FZ1000 is too big for me to use as an EDC - versatile though it is.

Curiously, the V1 doesn't feel outdated at all - it's a nifty little camera, and the 18.5mm lens is great.

Actually, I might go m43. Must be over a year since I've used it (donated to my son who refuses to take the PL20mm off it). If I use the Oly 75mm F1.8, then it won't be too hard to get something of a certain quality each day.

I think I’m in. Too much hifi too little photography the last months. As to what.... either the EM5 with PL25 or a small Panasonic with P20. The latter camera I don’t have yet (the lens I do have), but have been pondering about for quite some time to take the place of my unloved LX100 (excellent camera, just not for me) in my daily briefcase. Then again, maybe the PenF with 20. Or 17. Or EM1 with 25 Pro. Decisions, bah.

Okay, I'll keep track of who's taking part in this post (so it will be updated as frequently as necessary); Bill, can I refer to you should any moderating/administrating appear necessary?

Furthermore, if everyone agrees, I'll set up an appropriate thread (a single one for the images as well as relating commentary, discussions and outtakes) after Christmas. I think that's the easiest way; the gallery is also a useful tool for that kind of thing, but it makes viewing everyone's progress a bit harder to track.
