Dakotas are very cool!Cannon AFB Airshow, 2016. C-47 restored as an AC-47 "Spooky" gunship from the Vietnam War timeframe, aircraft is from the American Flight Museum out of Topeka, Kansas. These images aren't the best, shows the heat distortion and the too-high shutter speed. I can remember @Irene McC is a fan of Dakotas, I know there are others just can't recall who.
Four in the sequence so two today, and the other two either later today or tomorrow. On the taxi for takeoff.

Excellent reportage footage and interesting series @will focusA Traverse City Policeman peers in the wreckage of a Cessna 172 that made an unscheduled landing in a local park today. The park is part of a parcel that also is home to a Civic Center, where boat shows, car shows, craft shows etc... are featured. It's in the middle of a densely populated area of both residences and businesses. The property also has soccer fields that were being used this afternoon when the plane came down. Early information is sketchy as to the cause but thankfully, as of reports now, it appears no one was killed or injured. Witnesses say the plane lost power and altitude, eventually making a hard landing into a fence which seems to have arrested the plane's momentum. Kind of like a bad carrier landing. The airplane is part of a large, respected aviation program at the local Community College. It was on approach to a runway at Cherry Capital Airport which was probably less than a mile away.

The weather today was beautiful. Temps in the 80s brought people outdoors in droves that have been pent up inside with cabin fever all winter. The park was being well used when this incident happened. It is very fortunate that no one appears to have been hurt.

Any landing that you walk away from is a good landing, although I'm sure that all involved will remember this one.A Traverse City Policeman peers in the wreckage of a Cessna 172 that made an unscheduled landing in a local park today. They are still trying to determine the cause, it may take awhile, but carb ice is a possibility.Any landing that you walk away from is a good landing, although I'm sure that all involved will remember this one.
