"Aviation Photo Thread" (Planes, Helos, Balloons, etc)...

There is a reason they call it the 'LA Basin'.
It's not near as bad now as it was in the early to mid-60's when I was growing up.
Almost everyone in the US has better air quality now, thanks to California's Air Resources Board and push to cut pollution...which came directly out of photos of the air in LA back then.

Hollywood likes to make dramatic films with tension you could cut with a knife, but when the air got equally bad, it was time to do something!

Strangely enough CT's military air base, AFB Ysterplaat, lies in a flat ditch that catches sea fog more than most other areas nearby!
I've been called on standby at 6am for 7am departure, only to finally get going round about 11:00 when the sun burned away the mist
