I remember vividly when the wall came down. At the record shop, I see reminders almost daily, of the past when there were two Germanys. Little bits of text on very early compact discs that say Made in West Germany, and of course all the LPs on the great Deutsche Grammophon label from that era were labeled as such, too.
I wonder if most American kids today know that Germany was divided.
The IBM office in Boeblingen used to have a section of the wall outside the main entrance. Last time I went, it had gone. I’m assuming it wasn't stolen, so perhaps the location management just decided it wasn’t relevant any more. That’s a shame as I feel strongly that we should not bury history.
