Wonderful series.Gannet. I've taken a few pics of them recently and found them tricky. I've not been overly happy with a lack of percieved detail / sharpness, but i'm wondering if thats a function of their downy feathers, perhaps they just don't have the visual detail i'd decided they should.

Some of it's tricky lighting, some of it may still be slight motion blur, but a lot of it looks to be the way their feathers are so small and compact. They're practically downy to keep the heat in and all, so they look a bit..."woolier" than most birds; I don't usually see pics with much feather detail unless they are drying out/on the ground. The one other thing you might try out, is that I have struggled with sharpness/detail on in-flights when using IS at above 1/800 as there seems to be some odd harmonic match to my camera shake at 1/1200 to around 1/2500. It's weird, but simple to adapt to if that winds up being the case.Gannet. I've taken a few pics of them recently and found them tricky.
