Thanks Ray,
I am in the testing stage with the LX5. I'll post some images and thoughts by the end of the coming week.
So far, it's passing with flying colors.

Thanks Bill, though I do like the castle, I think I prefer your hotel.

Your monochrome of this castle has a very historic feel...it looks as though it could have come from one of their archived photos from the 30's or 40's. Nice touch, Bill!

Love that foreboding angle of view! Superb details and that sepia tone is perfect - with those clouds above. You got this just right for me!

Patterns of light and dark in the clouds and on the sea are fantastic. I've tried all the Nik programmes - Viveza is good though not essential, the others I can live without except for Silver Efex which is now indispensable. I believe they have a fifteen day day free trial on their website. There are a couple of websites that offer 15% discount coupons on the programme. A search on 'Nik coupon' will bring up some options.

A redo of my previous Leica X1 shot with a little extra via Silver Efex Pro. Pretty nice stuff this software - can't wait until I really know what I'm doing. Although I haven't changed much, I think the little bit of tweaking has improved the photograph quite a bit.

you should be able to figure it out...

I don't know if I saw the "before" version, but the "after" is superb! Really beautiful. Could you post (or link to) the "before" version for comparison?

Thanks,

-Ray

A pretty dramatic difference in the clouds, less dramatic but still notable differences in the sea and land portions. Nice. I'll be interested in your impressions of the software going forward. What were you using pre-efex pro? I assume these were RAW files?

Ray, I started using Lightroom when I got the X1 - part of the hefty purchase price. Tonight, after posting this shot, I got a "mini lesson" from Don in Silver Efex (just posted a saved photo on the LX/DLX image thread tonight w/Silver Efex.) and am going to reprocess this photograph because I now believe I can make it much better. Don urged me to buy Silver Efex about 6 months ago. Amin and others gave me advice on MU-43 when I was completely wet behind the ears digitally speaking...but it was all so new. I started with Aperture which I liked a great deal until it began giving me major headaches even after I'd gotten a new totally up-to-date MacBook Pro with tons of memory, etc., then with the X1 the Lightroom was "free". So there we have it. I still have a ways to go.
