Just a quick recommendation for this exhibition at the Royal Academy in London's Piccadilly. Building the Revolution - Soviet Art and Architecture 1915-1935 tells the story of a fascinating period of post revolutionary innovation in art and architecture.

On the upside, the photography is powerful and evocative and the exhibits depicting the state of some of the buildings as they have fallen into disuse in the post Soviet era are particularly impressive. On the downside much of the artwork - lithographs and drawings - are disappointing. The exhibits are well captioned, albeit with someone who has fallen in love with architectural jargon. I went with a couple of friends and when we came out I asked them both for one word that stuck in their minds - that word was "fenestrations"

Anyway, well worth a visit if you are in the area. It runs until the 22nd January.
