If you're only getting 30 seconds I think you're in T (time) mode rather than bulb, perhaps? You are locking down the plunger on your mechanical release? I have one I use as well and also on the X100S and it works fine in bulb when I use it. EDIT: Duplicated your problem, see my next post.
