Leica Showcase Canon 100mm F2 in Leica Thread Mount

Brian

Product of the Fifties
Wow. This lens is wow. I love short Telephoto lenses on Rangefinders, have an easier time focusing them over SLR's.

This is a 6-element in 4-group, classic Planar formula lens. This one has perfect glass, and the RF calibration is perfect on my M9 across the entire focusing distance.

Wide-open, just a test while walking through the neighborhood.

Focus is perfect across range, which means the Focal Length is spot-on and the internal Cam is just right.

This concerned me- someone sent me a Canon 85/1.8 that could not be set axross range until I changed the focal length by moving the rear optics in closer to the front group.

I'm glad to have this lens, was a choice between it and a 105/1.8 Nikkor in F-Mount- about the same price. I will do a comparison between this and the 105/2.5's.

This lens was also made in Canon FL and R mount, usually cheaper than the RF version- for those that shoot mirrorless.

This is a really good lens. The close focus is 3ft on it. The long throw focus is perfect for this kind of movement. It is a Double-Gauss, very different from the Nikkor lenses.

i paid $400 for mine, a little patience- Telephoto lenses on Leica are not as popular as fast-50s and wide-angle lenses.
Understood......although the canon 100 seems to command a popularity premium........whereas the135 did not...as much.

There are many more 135/3.5's made compared with 100/2's, and the difference in speed between them. The 100/2 was also made in Canon R and FL mount. Sometimes the Leica lenses come up mislabeled as SLR lenses in the auctions; I picked up the 135/3.5 Leica mount lens labeled as an FL mount.

I noticed the different mounts but yet have to stumble on mislabeled. Stock Very much limited to Japanese shop sellers if eBay. I have a 90 2.8 leitz that should see more use.

More with the Canon 100/2, the min focus of 3ft is noice for Spring.

Wide-Open, on the M9
