As a new member I thought I would throw a few intothe ring...they might not show particularly well how good the camera actually is as most were taken on a foggy morning walk but here they are. Shot RAW converted in ACR and turned into black and white with simply greyscale.

my 3.2mp nikon point & shoot has 50 iso - results are quite nice & smooth

don't understand why or where the emphasis came on high iso's

In preparing for his overseas school trip to New Caledonia, my 14 year old son told me he needed to take a camera with him. I considered my old m43 gear, but didn't trust him, so said "son, you're taking the S95". Of course, I wasn't aware of how it was with kids these days and was a bit shocked to see his mates turn up at the airport with their DSLRs. Anyway, the images he came back with show that 1) pleasingly, he does give some thought to composition and 2) it's still not not a bad little camera!

I know this is a rather old thread, but I thought I'd add one from my newly acquired S95. I thought it appropriate the first pic would be of another older Canon camera.

We share the infatuation with this little powerhouse - it's no longer competitive, but a fine camera nonetheless; I won't let got of mine any time soon, though I have to admit I hardly use it these days.

Well captured and seriously rewarding results, but they also show the sensor's limits in the second image: The hard yellow halo is typical (it can also be orange or purple - but always bright and solid). Very little in the way of flare, though - the lens is still a very nice performer (in all respects but distortion at the wide end, that is).

A parallel journey with the S95 and G1X Mk III yesterday. S95 images:

I got an S95 just before going to Dubai for the second time in May 2011 so wasn't exactly familiar with it

while I was there. I took quite a lot of photos but due to excessive heat and dust haze a lot of them are of memory value only.
The first one was taken from the Burj Khalifa and the second one when we were taxiing out to come home. Considering that the temperature was in the mid 40c they came out quite well.
