Walking around City Center, Las Vegas early Sunday afternoon. Leica M Monochrom, ISO320, Carl Zeiss C Sonnar with yellow filter. Aperture usually at either f/1.5 or f/8. As always, minimal post.

I love the dual nature of this lens. Wide-open it has bokeh like no other. Stopped down, it is every bit as sharp from corner to corner as anything modern.

I have a Leica Akademie workshop this weekend (The Truth about Photographs: Developing a Distinctive Visual Style) and am currently pulling out my hair to decide which lens(s) to bring.

I will probably use either my 35mm f/2.5 Summarit or one of my 50mm lenses for almost everything (street and urban shooting in Los Angeles) and may even just carry the one lens and keep a backup in the car.

If its to be a 50mm, things get complicated. The C Sonnar is great, but I'd probably use one of my vintage Sonnars instead, but as this is an intermediate/advanced workshop and I'm still not (in my opinion) quite at that level, I may just use my modern 50mm Summicron and not have to consider focus shift when working quickly. The instructor is a 35mm lens guy, so I may go with just the Summarit.

For a two-lens kit I may give the 24mm (listed for sale today) another go and pair it with a 50mm, or maybe go for some candid people shots with the 90 Summarit pair with the 35 Summarit.

One thing I do know is that I don't want to carry a camera bag, just the Monochrom with lens and at most a small extra lens in a jacket pocket along with extra cards, batteries and a few filters.

Terrific shots, Andrew.

I also own the C-Sonnar and it's one of my absolute favorite lenses. If I go out shooting with only one lens, that's usually the lens that gets the nod.

Cheers,

Antonio
