Leica Carl Zeiss Jena 8.5mm Sonnar

The J-9 takes a 49mm filter.

Are the threads damaged? I've had that happen. My way of dealing with it on the 5cm F1.5 CZJ Sonnar is to use a 40.5 to 43 step-up. I forced the Step-up into it with the optics module out of the focus mount, and twisted it in with a rubber mousepad.

I have a feeling that the thread is damaged. It is a 49mm however. I had to use a hood so I finally forced one it but I think I just damaged the thread even more. Without any coating, the thing is so prone to flare so hood is almost a necessity. would have been nice to put a filter in however. I also wonder if the thread is damaged, does it also mean that I will not be able to get to the inside of the optics since I have to unscrew the retaining ring in front of the lens?

Can you see damage to the threads?

The short answer: damage to the threads makes it hard to get the filter ring off. The Coated CZJ Sonnars have hidden set screws holding the name ring, never seen an uncoated lens with the hidden set screws.
