I want to upgrade to an SSD , but I’m not feeling the time /effort it would take to do the full image and copy.

I just don’t have the time to do it, but honestly now is the best time to do it - if that makes any sense.

I have none of the hardware/software for doing the cloning/copying and it’s been so long since I’ve done something like that. All the local computer shops have closed up, so I can’t even pay someone else to do it.

Yes, I’m whining. Yes, first world problems. Yes, I’ll probably end up doing it sometime in early January. Lol.

SSDs have become very affordable, even for those of us with financial challenges. I’m not sure if my 2010 macbook can take a 2TB, but I am considering removing the DVD which I never use and add one in there for storage, in which case I’ll leave the 250GB in place. Could even jump to 4TB I guess :)

I am fine with a 1TB, which is the capacity of the main drive now. I've a secondary internal for image storage that gets backed up to an external on the regular. Samsung SSDs are a good price right now ($100) for 1TB.

I’m now down to under 71,000 images and 2 more years to go through.

I’m also going to take the plunge and upgrade my photo machine to an SSD.

I just ordered the 2.5 to 3.5 bay adapter, transfer cable, and a Samsung 870 1TB drive.

Macrium Reflect 7 is installed already. It should be delivered Dec 30.

I’ll be using the time now until then to clean up the current internal HDD so I do not have to transfer any unnecessary data to the new Drive.

Wish me luck. I’ve not done this in some time, hoping the knowledge is still there for success.
From what I’ve read, if the software is competent, it should handle the bulk of the heavy lifting.

Ok, so swapping to an SSD was ridiculously way more easy than I had anticipated.

Between unboxing, doing the backup, and installing the SSD into the box took less than an hour and a half!!
I should have done this sooner!
