Super windy last night, but took a few pics of the skyline. 18-55, about 15-17 seconds on the exposures:

Thanks!

As to the tripod. A good tripod is easy to work with. I don't use it often, but I bring one any time image quality is critical, or if I may need long exposures. Just don't get a cheap one...you might as well just hand hold, since they're horrible to work with, you'll never bring them anywhere, and if there's a breeze, you'll get garbage pics anyway.

Last night, it was critical that I had a good tripod, as the wind was blowing about 40 MPH, and with these 15 second exposures, it really could have blown the camera all over the place and ruined the image, but it was rock solid. I use a 3 section carbon fiber tripod from Induro with a Photoclam ballhead (with arca-swiss clamp). Relatively lightweight and rock solid. Not super cheap, but worth it.
