I am not a great lover of Christmas, some of the best times we've had as a family are the Christmases we have spent with another family in a ski chalet in France. We did this for several years until recently when my aged father in law became single again (his lady friend died) and he became too infirm to travel. The whole pressure of the Christmas meal is for the chalet hosts, the presents, well you can't carry too much with all that gear needed to keep warm! We have all relaxed and enjoyed the spirit of Christmas including the open air Carol Service and the freedom from tv advertising telling us what we MUST have!
On another rather curmudgeonly note, my husband bought me a very nice pearl and diamond necklace for Christmas but it wasn't that Leica lens that I REALLY wanted
I know it was a lovely thought AND he did it all by himself but I will probably only wear it a few times a year and I would've used the lens sooooo much more! Ah well......... now I feel bad (again!).
