Dear digiKam fans and users, Just a few words to inform the community that 7.2.0-beta1 is out and ready to test one month later the 7.1.0 stable release. After a long time to integrate the student codes working on faces management while this summer, we are now ready to propose a first beta with the the new improvements planned since a very long time about the usability and the performances of faces tagging, faces detection, and faces recognition, already presented in July with 7.

One very important point introduced with this release is the new Online Release Downloader to help users with stable and pre-release updates, fully automatized, providing a release notes, and with the options to use debug or optimized application versions.

Here is the list of most important features coming with this release: ExifTool Support The famous ExifTool is now supported officially in parallel than the former Exiv2 shared library to handle file metadata. ExifTool is a powerful tool that we will use in special cases to fix metadata dysfunctions that we cannot solve using Exiv2.

This first version published on Christmas 2001 was a simple Gphoto2 graphic interface for Linux. 2 decades later, the application become a main Photo Management Program, working on Linux, Windows, and macOS with plenty of important features to view, edit, search, publish your image collections. 20 years in, you know where we stand. digiKam is a non-profit, global community, and our values are clear: choice and control for our users, openness and innovation for the Libre Photo that has become so central to our lives.

Here is the list of most important features coming with this release: Showfoto Folder-View and Stack-View Showfoto, the stand alone version of digiKam image editor, comes with a new left sidebar including two tabs to navigate in your local file system and to manage your prefered stack of images to load in application.
