Welcome to the Digital Darkroom Derby #130, a digital image editing/processing challenge. The rules are here. Please read them.

Challenge ends on Monday 3rd July at 6:30PM AEST (8:30AM GMT).

Hopefully you will find this photo interesting enough to enter the challenge. It's taken from the local escarpment lookout at Mt. Saddleback, NSW mid-to-late afternoon through lots of haze.

Good luck!

Entry #1 (and probably only):

First passes both the ORF (High Resolution) and ORI (Normal Resolution) files through DxO PureRAW 3 before importing all the files into Capture One Pro 23 because:
  • Capture One still doesn't have full support for the Olympus 100-400 f/5.0-6.3 lens; and
  • DxO PureRAW 3 appears to me to treat Olympus / OMDS High Resolution files better than Capture One.
Then looked at all four files in Capture One. The DNG file of the standard resolution ORI file produced by DxO PureRAW appeared to be the sharpest and so decided to work further with this file.

Used both Clarity (Punch Method) and Dehaze to get rid of the haze. Then added a bit of Contrast, before playing around a bit with Highlight and Shadow recovery. Finally cropped the image to 16:9 aspect ratio to get rid of the forest at the bottom of the image.

Only 5 takers this time.

This photo was taken 26th May, where sunset was 30 minutes away, and so the long shadows. I went the other way, darkening the image slightly which seemed to blunt some of those colour shifts a little and makes the light stand out a little more. I also went for a wider crop.
