Raw and JPG files can be found DDD 149

The Derby will close at 08:00 BST on Monday 18th September.

Entry #1:

First fed ARW file through DxO PureRAW, before importing the resulting DNG file into Affinity Photo 2. Fiddled around with Exposure, contrast, highlight and shadow recovery. Also played around with clarity. But I am going to have to learn a lot more about masking before I can do anything about the sky. Cropped to 16:9 and tried to get rid of much of the sky.

Entry #2:

First fed ARW file through DxO PureRAW, before importing the resulting DNG file into Capture One Pro 23. Then maxed out Highlight and Shadow recovery, added some Clarity via the "Punch" method, pushed up the Exposure a bit and added in some additional contrast. Then used Magic Brush to Mask out the sky, and fiddled about with Contrast and Brightness to taste. Cropped to 16:9, but included a bit more sky in this time.

All edits in Lightroom on my Android tablet:
Cropped image, increased shadows, reduces highlights
Masked sky - reduced highlights again, added some texture, clarity and dehaze
Masked subject - lifted shadows
Added linear gradient at bottom of photo, increased saturation and texture, decreased highlights
Added a little bit of vignette.

That makes sense.

There are apps which allow you to generate RAW files from your phone - you could be the photographer you aspire to be with the things you already have :)
Oh, I have cameras ... a Canon 30D (now an antique, I suppose) and a Sony RX100 Mk iii. When I do use them, I always shoot raw. But I'm not a photographer and don't really aspire to be one. My specialty is editing/retouching. I'm also one of those rare Luddites who doesn't have (and doesn't want) a smart phone.

Not competing. I was basically clueless on this one, so I just idled away an hour tweaking details. ACR/PS CS6 as usual (still frowning at the 21st century).

EDIT: Added some bushes in the foreground, just as an experiment with composition/balance.

EDIT 2: Another experiment with composition by adding foreground trees and shadow.
