Derby closes on Friday, 16th of February, 2024 at 20:00 AM London Time.

files:

*.X3F can be edited with Sigma Photo Pro.
The 16bit TIF is exported from SPP.

The photo was taken on one of the last days of last summer holliday in Fredrikstad.
I chose this one beause it has potential to improve with pp. Often my OLympus and Sony Jpg look already quite good.
Part of the challenge is actually to deal with the cumbersom RAW file.
I have overcome all other shortcomings of the DP2M, but am still struggelig with the pp.
Lets see how you guys cope with it.

Good Luck

Entry #1:

Well that was a bit of a challenge. None of my raw file convertors would open the X3F file and, although they would open the TIF file, I felt that there was still something missing. So I downloaded and installed Sigma PhotoPro 6 on my MacBook and fiddled around a bit there. - Generally some highlight and shadow recovery, combined with some exposure modifications. Also fiddled around with white balance a bit. Then exported the image to a 16 bit TIF file, which I then imported into Capture One Pro for further editing.

Played around further with highlight recovery, shadow recovery, exposure and added in some clarity. Then noticed that there was a bit of noise visible and so exported the image to Topaz Photo AI for some noise reduction, lens correction and sharpening purposes, before finally exporting the JPEG file from Capture One Pro.

Do you have the Raw file? I can't open this file and get an error from Adobe DNG converter.
@RobD , The X3F file is the raw file. Good luck with finding anything that supports it, with the exception of Sigma PhotoPro 6.

Here is a bit more on the camera used: https://www.sigma-global.com/en/cameras/dp2-merrill/ and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigma_DP2_Merrill.

Here is an X3F plugin for PhotoShop: https://www.sigma-global.com/en/support/software/sigma-x3f-plug-in-for-photoshop/?os=windows or https://www.sigma-global.com/en/support/software/sigma-x3f-plug-in-for-photoshop/?os=mac

And finally: https://fileinfo.com/extension/x3f

Yes I googled and found out that it is a raw file but the only thing on my Apple Mac that can open it is Adobe DNG converter. But unfortunately it give an error every time I try to open it.
Why not post a DNG file?

Sigma PhotoPro doesn't generate DNG files. Why not download and install the Mac plugin for Photoshop? - I have provided the link above.
I did that and had some weird behaviour. The plugin allowed the file to be opened via import into PS but refused to let me delete a Photoshop file I made from the image? Finally after putting the PS file inside a folder I could then delete it. The installed plugin also doesn't instal in the usual place? I don't know where it is? Will continue to search as I want to delete it.

I am starting to realise that finding ways to edit X3F raw files is also part of the challenge. ;)
