Darkroom Challenge Digital Darkroom Derby #217 - CLOSED + Results posted

I would like to thank all of you for participating.

The difficulty with this challenge was the white balance. Regardless of cropping, the colour is what makes or breaks this cat portrait.

The first entry to get it in the ballpark was @WhidbeyLVR , whose clever cloning and manipulation of the owner raised the bar. I was particularly pleased to see the owner included - these owners have
worked hard showing their cats for the duration of the preceding year to gain sufficient points to go through to Cat of the Year, and there is a lot of pride in participating.

@gecko 's entry #2 was reedited after taking a cue from an image I posted in the Cat thread and well noted! Having seen the cats in the flesh (in the fur!) I know that there is no yellow cast in the coat.
* I notice now that this entry has been reverted to its original state? It would have done well had you left it as per your re-edit. Your query was not addressed to me in the thread, and I totally overlooked it.
A million apologies to you, Irene, and to Lyle (@WhidbeyLVR). I guess I used very poor judgement, my excuse being that at the time I was feeling quite miserable, suffering from the side effects of the covid vaccine which makes me feel quite sick for several days. I ask you both for your forgiveness!

@WhidbeyLVR: Lyle, a question please: it has been my understanding that one is allowed to modify or even replace one's entry at any time during the Challenge open period. However, having just re-read the rules, I don't find that this is stated explicitly. Having replaced both of my entries after gleaning more information, I will, of course, revert to my original entries if changing one's entry is not allowed. Please let me know. Many thanks.
No apology needed. I only just noticed that you asked for guidance earlier (quoted above). My general view is that modifications or replacements are okay as long as they are before the close of contest and aren't abused. Basically, I would like everyone to show their best efforts. If you are making a big change, leave a note with the change. For small tweaks, just replace the image in your original post. Abuse could be in the form of obviously copying (or imitating) someone else's work or by making changes after the close. I once had someone download one of my entries and make a few changes before submitting the result as their work (this was on a different forum, not here).

Anyway, I feel like this is too wordy and ambiguous for inclusion in the rules, so I leave it to the challenge hosts to make a judgement call when necessary.

Oh my goodness, no need whatsoever to apologise! I'm very sorry to hear the vaccine left you feeling unwell and hope that by now those effects have worn off.

I did like your (now removed) 2nd entry very much and am sorry that you felt the need to withdraw it.
