Raw file was processed/cropped in DxO PL7. I used a public domain image by Alan Schmierer (Flickr) of a Cloudless Sulphur to add a head and legs to the insect. Surgery performed in Gimp.

Edit: I initially had no clue how the proboscis attached to the head, but I have since concluded it must have curved down, around, and then back up and over. So I added a suggestion of that.

Entry #1:

The raw file provided wasn't supported / recognised by the current version of Capture One Pro. This didn't have any real effect on me as, as usual, I first passed the raw file through DxO PureRAW 4 and then imported the resulting DNG file into Capture One Pro for further editing / processing.

In Capture One, I played around with Exposure, Contrast, Saturation, Highlight recovery, Shadow recovery and Clarity, before cropping the image to suit.

About one more day until the Challenge closes. Thanks to Lyle, Larry and David for their entries and to ektar for his kind comment. I hope that a few more entries will be forthcoming.

First, I would like to apologize to all for the terrible Challenge photo that I provided, and to thank all those who participated. I think everyone did a nice job of cropping the image. I think the painstaking reconstruction work of Lyle should earn him first place. Ken, entry #1 is 1st runner up, and Larry's entry is 2nd runner up. As usual, David provided a beautiful entry with a much-improved background.
Thanks again and over to you @WhidbeyLVR.

Thank you for hosting, Rashid. And thanks for the win. Your image was fine. It's a challenge, after all.
