Fuji Discounted X100 or Full-Price X100s?

With money tight, the classic X100 is a perfect choice to enter and get to know the X universe. You will have plenty of options regarding post processing, you won't lose much if you (have to) sell the camera later, and there will be another performance enhancing firmware update. It is a classic and classy experience.

Haven't had my X100 long, but I really, really like it.

i dont know about that. i am severely addled with GAS on a fairly constant basis. but ive had the x100 since the beginning and i couldnt be happier. i agree with luke: from what ive seen the S files are a little 'better', but only marginally so, imo. the throughout-the-frame clarity of the original X is simply awe inspiring, up to 3200. its b&w reproduction is honesly the best ive seen until the M monochrome. the firmware upgrades make the user experiences almost identical, unless you much prefer manual focus, where imo the S takes it easily.

and the S is not itself without issues, like kind of shabby close focusing. newer is not always better! i found this out twice, once when i traded my ep2 for the much touted omd, and again when i traded my x10 in for an x20. the newer versions had much to offer over the older on paper; but subjectively to my eye, neither produced the kind of files i so enjoyed with their predecessors.

so fear not! spend less and enjoy just as much! you will marvel at what you get from the x100. querie though, at least in the US you can pick up a new xe-1 and use lots of lenses, for about $600, which imo is the most outstanding deal out there. imo, thats where the decision lies: original x100 vs xe-1.

I am pretty sure newer is not always better. I've learned it with the D700 ;) never replaced it for more than 3 years until I got the E-M5. I only got the E-M5 coz I want a smaller camera.

The only reason I did not replace the D700 was because I was so satisfied with it I never even considered nor lust for other cameras. Now since the OP is asking/thinking about the x100s I assume he is interested about it since he's willing to spend more to get it. From my personal view, it's almost futile to fight the urge. hehe

Otherwise any current camera can get you decent results IQ wise. I chose the X-E1 coz I want a system camera, I don't expect it to have better IQ than the E-M5/E-P5, I just expect it to be different and boy is it different. haha I like!! :D

I am with you Steven. I skipped Olympus P3 series and only upgraded from EPL2 to OMD because of weather sealing . I lust about EP5 ( u know it :D) but cant justify it . I love EP5 looks but OMD with grip and WR is something I dont wanna give up. I am not interested in building an other system so X100 works for me . Now if any XYZ camea offers ISO 1000000K etc perfromance , I dont care as my limit is 1600 and I mostly shoot at base ISO. FUJI X100 AF is quite acceprtable and infact very good after firmaware update. I really love old sensor output . I just cant shell out USD700 more for letter S , photographer Z and marginal improvement in AF ( day time only ) and ISO . Lets hope Fuji launches FF in same body like RX1:cool::cool: then its a different game .
Cheers

the controls of operating a camera can be similar to the controls of driving a car. throttle cable vs drive-by-wire, touchy brakes vs squishy brakes, short throw shifter vs long throws, etc. an '86 corolla gt-s (or fr-s/brz) may not be powerful at all, but the way it feels to maneuver one is awesome for what it is.

Now if they come up with a black X100s, that would mean added $$ but same output.
i tried looking for a non-working black x100 to use as parts so i could customize my x100s to black. i probably won't ever find one.

it's ridiculous that they even priced it higher as a limited edition when it was a standard choice for the x20 & x-e1, and the only choice for the x-pro1.

i find it weird that fuji prices the silver wide angle converter a little more than the black one.

Maybe because they mostly have black lenses? So the silver converter becomes the special edition? Haha ;)
