Well,

I've been looking for reasons to abandon DPReview, and now they have provided one.

Every other click there produces a screen telling me to disable my ad-blocker. There is a link to click to bypass the screen, but it' a one time bypass.

Adios muchachos!

Using Firefox and browsing DPreview in "Private Browsing" mode, I don't see any ads (no adblocker enabled). Don't know does Firefox automatically block ads in that mode?

I pretty much only view DPreview for the vintage lenses subsection. That section has a great group of members, can't say the same for some other parts though.

Websites are now more seriously cracking down on adblockers and VPNs.

Firefox doesn't have a built-in ad blocker (or that has changed in the last 3-4 years). But it has strict mode tracking protection which may block some ads. I assume it automatically kicks in for "Private Browsing"

Just tried a quick test. I use Firefox which has the 'Adguard' plug in, but which is currently turned off. I can't see anything on DPreview that looks like an advert, but if I turn on Adguard I get the pop-up about ad blockers. This isn't using 'Private' mode.

I use Brave and the popup was averaging once a day, three times in a row each day as I viewed a new page/ thread. Add me to the increasing number of people that are leaving/ have left the site.

I got a response from Scott Everett after my message about the problem. He asked about some details of the occurrence.

It's only on the desktop Brave that this occurs. Doesn't happen on my tablet and phone.

I've not heard back from him and as you say the problem still exists.

Most of my browsing there is on my tablet so for now it's not a huge impediment, but you have to think that won't last forever.

I've been a fairly active member there for some 22 years.

C'est la vie
