I love this image, Matt.
The angle - the way it starts out relatively sharp and becomes blurry - the tonality of the greys - and also a sort of understated suggestion of mystery to it (at least, that's how it appears to me).

I don’t know if the polar bear this paw belonged to died of natural causes, or if he or she was killed by the locals. What I do know is they cut his paw off, and removed all his claws. The “valuable” claws sell at the local Inupiat museum for about $250 dollars each.
