I stopped and talked for a few minutes about jazz, about seeing a lot of great performers in Santa Barbara including one of my favorite trumpet players, Nate Birkey. So in walking away, this man started playing I Can't Get Started, upon which I walked back and showed him a video clip of Nate Birkey doing that same number with a band somewhere on the East Coast. Quite a vibe. f1.4, 1/90 handheld, ISO 800. I guessed the focus...

Very good job guessing the focus at F1.4; The image has a real Three-D look to it. The sign in the background looks like a musical note floating into the air, like the old cartoons.

Did the street-performer like the Video?

Indeed he did. We had a good short chat then too. Most people scurry by, some drop a dollar in the box, and I'm reminded of the world class musician (violinist, don't recall?) who was performing as a street musician in a public transport station in New York I think, and after some time had passed, nobody was particularly aware of him or recognized the artistry. It's good we have photography to remind us of all kinds of things.

Perfect tones for this beautiful shot, I'm filled with envy! I went to Moscow a few years ago and we walked into a subway where there was at least half an orchestra seated and playing classical music, the acoustics were fabulous.

Just a casual shot of the trumpeter for The Shanghai Woolies at their Portland, OR, 5 April concert. A local group and good.
