DxO's antiquated activation processes

Just a brief rant on the process for software that requires activation.

DxO's process is lousy.

You get 2 activations for PureRAW, but there's no way to deactivate a license, like when you know you're swapping PCs, for example. Contrast with On1 and CaptureOne, where you can deactivate a license yourself with a few clicks, and you can even reset all activations in case you forget. Not DxO. When you reach your limit, you have no choice but to contact their customer service to have them reset, and that involves some back and forth emailing with lots of questions. I get it that piracy is a real issue, but how can they not add better license control for their paying customers? Some companies have it figured out. Heck, even Microsoft offers an app and automated call-in processes when you can't activate Windows online. I'm still waiting on DxO to reset mine after 3 emails to them, and I haven't even used their software in months. You'd think they'd know that, but it would appear their anti-piracy measures are not very modern.

Still haven't heard back from them so I can use their software. Boy, they sure don't want to retain me as a customer.
I had to send them an email to complain about some random billing issue years ago, and literally NEVER heard back from them. In my limited experience, their customer service is nonexistent. I wouldn’t hold your breath 🤷🏻‍♂️

What's crazy is that they emailed me 3 times yesterday, which I didn't expect at all since it was the weekend. I know software development isn't free, but this approach seems like it probably wastes more labor hours in customer service than it would in adding the necessary code to be on par with their competition. I mean, 3 emails to accomplish one simple task (that isn't even done yet) is pretty dang inefficient, and I work for a large company. I know all about inefficiency!

Finally got my reply back, where they released one of my activations, despite me telling them I don't have the software installed on any other PCs. My guess is they have no way of knowing if I'm trying to install on 3 machines or one. :dash2:

I've had PL7 for a little over a year now. DXO strikes me as a "we know best" sort of company. They do not seem to listen to their customers much if they ask for features that may be outside their box of ideas on the way the software ought to be. Peruse their forums sometime and I think anyone could come to the same conclusion I have. Yet it is very capable, though somewhat different, software versus most of the other editors. It definitely takes a while to adapt to their thinking.

I think DXO is quite good at the "Gallic shrug". 😁

Still, Photolab is my go-to RAW developer. I just grit my teeth sometimes.

I just can't be bothered experimenting.

I've used Photoshop since around CS2.

It does everything I want/need and more, and I certainly cannot be bothered learning another complex program, at my age, and with my health uncertainties. Time is limited now!
