A few from the other day
The "festival" at St Emilion to celebrate the start of the grape harvest - (Jurade de St Emilion) - the town was full of people until just after mid night

The best I could do - held the EP_1 plus 17mm high, standing in the crowd between two buildings, (you can just see the outlines), and tried to frame using the LCD

The original images have been cropped considerably (max 50% of original image) - as the display was high in the sky

any advice on taking shots of fireworks gladly received

For hand-held photos these are surprisingly good. Never tried myself but a tripod, a longer lens and possibly pre-focussing might help (from what I've read).
