Didn't care - braved the 8 - 22F temps today and went out to the zoo to test this lens out.

It is a spectacular performer. I forgot to update the firmware, so if it only gets better with the 3.0 update on the EM1 - just WOW.

Anyway. Here are the images. As I usually do, I shot JPG with a flat profile and then added my own custom Lightroom preset to the images.

Another impressive thing is this. All but the first 2 bird images were taken through glass!!

The one above was taken at 1/10, ISO 3200, f/2.8 handheld @ 90mm View attachment 107679

I won't say much more about this lens yet because I want to run it through some more paces with the updated firmware and I think that the pictures should speak for themselves.

you should be able to figure it out...
Really nice results! I've read that the new firmware for the EM1 takes that auto-focus, particularly for tracking movement, up another couple of levels. That gap keeps closing....

A lovely series, Andrew; the wolves and the tawny frogmouth are my favorites. The AF performance of your Oly could make a Fuji X shooter a little envious at times.

Ah, yes that Fuji Achille's Heel.

Thankfully, Fuj keeps getting their AF performance to be better and better. I'm hoping it is not much longer and they will get there!

the wolves are wonderful captures.....anytime I look for them at the zoo, they're hiding. And that pelican shot is lovely

I teach some workshops about getting great images at the zoo, and one of the first thing I always tell people is that doing research about the animals and their schedules is #1 thing they need to understand.

The majority of the animals are more active when the temperatures are cooler and either early in the morning or later in the evening. They also tend to get more active around feeding times as well. I got there when it was cool and early in the day, so I played the odds in my favor and got extremely lucky. Normally when I am there any other time, they might be standing about or far back in the habitat. I think the snow got them playful.
