I was lucky to have the chance to go home, grab my camera and long lenses, yet still have the fog bank remain. In my experience such views are not only fairly rare but also usually only seen when there's no chance of stopping...

The other two shots you refer to both seem to benefit from patchy fog too, and yes I agree they are most agreeable!
