Up in Portland (OR) today and managed to get yamcha - dim sum - into the visit. This place, the Hong King Cafe is where the area Chinese prefer to do their yamcha. It is very close to HK yamcha and the food close, too. I have a real weakness for Chinese food and dim sum especially. These are the dumplings we started with, pork stuffed wheat wrapper and shrimp stuffed rice wrapper. Really good. And then the dam burst. Insanely good. We waddled out, smiling.

As the late Albert Roux said, "who doesn't like dumplings?".

That area of Portland has some excellent ethnic restaurants. Somewhere near there (closer to 81st on Stark maybe iirc) is/was a great Lebanese restaurant - well worth exploring if you are there again.

I have eaten there, the meze. Insanely good. It was a short walk from the old Country Cat, also a great joint and jammed for Sunday brunch, a Portland must. PDX has some good places to eat, many are ethnic joints which I celebrate. Thanks for reminding me. Right by the Lebanese restaurant is a Lebanese market which has about a dozen different kinds of canned dolmata, and I am talking huge cans. The market itself is worth a visit. The people who run it are very nice folks. Yeah, PDX is a great town, better when you have a fork in your hand. ;o)

This is what a $105 breakfast for 2 looks like 😳 For New Years, my wife and I usually go to a hotel for 2 nights so as to avoid having to drive, both for me to be able to have a few adult beverages and more so because of the others on the road that have way too many beverages. Normally we stay in FT Worth TX and watch the fireworks from our room. This year we changed it up for a Dallas hotel. They include a $50 voucher for breakfast for the first morning. I ordered blueberry pancakes, a fruit plate, and an "American breakfast" plus one orange juice and coffee for 2. After tax, a mandatory 25% gratuity and a $5 "delivery" charge the total came to $105 and change! Thank goodness I had a $50 voucher 😂 In all fairness, the food was very good but then so is Denny's Grand Slam Breakfast! The second morning, New Years Day, they included a brunch buffet and fortunately the whole thing was included, $165 for two! You only live once, and talking to some friends, they just barely passed a police sobriety checkpoint on the way home NYE so yeah, it was worth it 👍🏻

I think we must have packed a sweet tooth or two for this trip to Gothenburg last year.

I did make an effort last year to photograph more food on the road to participate more on this thread but work pressures and a lot of travel in between has meant I am only now just getting around to looking at my photographs from 2024 and 2023, so, apologies, the food might be a bit stale by the time I post them. So far, I've noticed that fish and chips, burgers, and puddings/cakes seems to be the only thing on my menu! Clearly I need to travel on different roads! Perhaps that's a new year resolution but, darn, those puddings look good!
