The past ten days or so I've been experiencing frequent slowdowns in the forum response, sometimes to the point that page requests time out altogether. Other times it's incredibly laggy.

Initially, I thought this was just a problem with the Android app, but it's certainly showing up more and more on the desktop too, and tonight it's particularly poor.

It's possible someone's trawled up the bit of wet string connecting Yurop and Norf America, but perhaps it's worth Amin checking all is well at the server end?

Or is it only just me that's having a problem?

I thought I was the only one. It's been absolute misery logging in over the last month. The main page loads quickly enough, but subsequent pages are slow to load, to a point that I just give up and browse away.

Christina pointed this out to me a while ago, and I'm at a loss. Seems to affect only folks outside of the US and only S.C. and not the other 4 sites on the same server. Have no idea what it could be. Open to any insights/suggestions.

I'm in the US (Maryland), using Verizon FIOS, but often can't open the site in Safari. In Chrome everything is OK.

Amin, what server/software (versions) is it running on? Any info (you can also send it by email) helps. I assume you don't get performance red flags. I will check with some IT folks. It is probably difficult to assess from a distance but you never know. Personally I did not experience any problems. Not with firefox on my mac. Not with mercury on my ipad. Haven't checked Safari or Chrome ( 1 browser is enough;-) ). There were issues with DNS prefetching and Safari but that was back in 2010.

But I won't speculate until I have consulted someone who may be able to ask some smart questions to find out what the problem might be (I do have some ideas but I am not really an expert in this field (frankly, I am no expert im any field)).

Follow-up info (frankly, I thought I added this info already; apparently not):

Although the first thing I was told that this is like searching for the needle in the haystick (that helps ;-) ) my point-of-contact recommended the following:

1. Check if the issues relate to the DNS server(s) by using another DNS server. That could be done by changing the IP-address of the DNS-server in your router (usually the provider offers IP-addresses of multiple DNS-servers)

2. Check if changing browsers work. Firefox does not seem to cause problems. Firefox works on most if not all Operating Systems.

3. Check for inconsistencies in the virtual host table on the server. This has to be checked by Amin or his provider. Since three sites work well and one does not, there might be differences in how URLs are handled. This problem is less likely because all browsers should experience the same problems. But since browsers may interpret data from the server differently, it might be worth checking this.

I'll cross my fingers one or the other will solve the problem.

I've tested it on three different browsers, Chrome, Firefox and Safari on my MacBook Pro. It's the same reaction regardless of the browser. The main page stutters a bit and then loads normally. If I click on a link, there's a 50/50 chance of it going through or dying completely.

That is helpful! What happens if you use another DNS IP-address?

It's been fine all morning and in the last 40 minutes it's been impossible.

In order to get to this page to post this, it's taken four clicks from where I was - it shouldn't take more than 4 seconds to do that, but it's taken about 3 minutes, plus having a complete timeout message saying that the server could not be contacted. The latter suggests to me a DNS problem.

The fact that some people are or have always had problems with particular browsers or particular computers, or even particular browsers on particular computers, is likely to point to different issues for them.

After I hot "post quick reply" for that last one, I got "could not establish connection to remote server" for about 20 mins.

So I went out in the sunshine and took photogrraphs

I'm still having problems.
The pattern seems to be emerging that between very approximately 1500UTC and 2000UTC things will slow down and start to timeout.
As I write this I tried to open another SC tab and it's still trying to load, after 5 minutes.
Be interesting to see if this reply will actually get posted once I click ...
