Fuji Showcase Fuji 23mm f/1.4 R

Wife's birthday is today. So we've been doing things every evening since, like, Thursday last week... lots of fun late nights, company holiday parties, dinners out, etc. I decided to just lock the 23 onto the XT1 and roll with it for 4 days straight, knowing it would do more or less whatever I needed. A few...

All this from one handy lens.

So many great images in this thread. I really want this lens now .

PROS: Focus is pretty quick, and silent. Angle of view is just so damned useful. F1.4 will get you a little bokeh here and there, potentially a lot if you pull the subject way in.

CONS: Kinda big and heavy - like the 18-55 but fatter, and feels a little heavier to me, but I didn't bother to look it up... less than the 56, more than the 35. Always a bridesmaid, rarely a bride... Not wide enough to do anything crazy, not long enough to isolate subjects easily, so it doesn't have quite the sparkly magic of the 35 or 56.

SUMMARY: For people who have only the 18-55, this is a strongly compelling "first prime." For people who are comfortable bringing only 1 prime to an event and making it work, it's probably the most useful prime there is - it depends on the size of the space. If you're going to get tossed into an unknown event, this would be your safest bet. Also great for low-stress 1-lens situations, where you just wanna grab some shots for fun. It contends with the 18-55, the 27 pancake, and the 35 as an entirely doable "only lens I own" lens. Also it focuses quickly enough that there's really no reason for Fuji to update the design, in my mind. Physics probably keeps them from making it smaller, and the rest is pretty dialed in.

Time to update this thread. Took the 23 and the XC 50-230 to Boston for a 3 day weekend. The 23 did most of the work, til it was time for a biking event. Some selections... NOTE: All are SOOC jpg's. No editing.

Biking 1-handed over bricks, 1/125... OIS would've been cool, but f1.4 means you can crank the speed up.

My daughter, among her many other parents, whom we now miss terribly. It takes a village...

It was the first clear night in a while so a friend and I went out in search of some northern lights. They were not cooperating with us however so all we ended up with were some very cold fingers and a couple pictures of stars, city lights and my truck.
