Fuji Fuji X100VI coming Feb 20th

I've decided to cancel my pre order. FWIW here is my reasoning after spending a week with the X-T5 and various lenses.

My conclusion is for the of sort images you would shoot with the X100V the 40mp sensor makes no difference, especially if you are using a film sim or filter.

I took a bunch of shots of a fence. It wasn't much fun but the results were interesting.

1. The lens absolutely matters. The 35F2 on the X-T5 delivered somewhat more detailed fence pictures than the 23F2 of the 100V (at f5.6). The Tamron 17-70 shot at approx 23 on the X-T5 was definitely inferior at f5.6.
2. IBIS for me in daylight is pretty much irrelevant. I can easily handhold to somewhat below 1/FL and on a 35mm equivalent lens that is plenty.

Couple this result with the DPR test shots that show the X100V to be somewhat less sharp than the X-T3/4 on the same 26mp sensor. And, the minor increase in detail with the 40mp sensor over the 26mp, results in the 40mp sensor being less of an upgrade in the X100. I personally feel the X100VI test shot results will be inferior to the X-T5. Also the 40mp sensor is a 1/2 stop behind in DR.

The AF and the speed of operation will certainly be faster with the VI, does this matter for a camera like the X100? Not for me.

IBIS for my use, which involves a lot of vibration, is probably a deal breaker or at least a camera breaker. So no VI for me.

If IBIS failure was not top of mind I might make the switch. IBIS would be nice in low light and I am sure the 40mp would offer some benefits at times. The speed of operation is certainly nice with the XtransV and the new sims would be fun. Enough for the delta between the V and the VI? I dunno.

I agree, not a whole lot of improvement over the V other than the sensor. The upcoming Pro4 with interchangeable lenses may be worth the wait for Fuji users.

I had the V and it was a wonderful camera. The problem was that 35 mme is not my favorite focal length and it’s fixed to the front of the camera. I sold it and eventually got the GRIIIx. The kit lens is a bit longer (40 mme) and the camera is truly pocketable. If I want a bigger body than the GR I can stick the 27 on my XT’s with little size penalty. The X100’s are wonderful cameras, they just don’t fit that well with my style of shooting.

My go to camera store in Berlin seems to be out of stock already, the pre-orders were expected to be delivered this week and both color variants are now listed as "expecting new stock soon".

I sort of agree to some comments regarding upgrading from V to VI - if you don't really need the IBIS, I doubt it'll be really worth it. While I haven't tried that new 40 MP sensor myself, I have been perfectly happy with the X-Trans IV sensor and don't need that higher resolution one.

Ours arrived yesterday, silver for the wife and black for me. Here's a pic taken this morning after our latest dump of snow (still ongoing!!) I've shot mainly Olympus for the last 10 years so I can see a learning curve ahead of us.

The film sims are definitely part of the fun with Fuji. Nothing you can’t do in post, but shooting JPEGs with different sims can jar your creativity when needed.

I had a go with one today in Harrison Cameras in Sheffield - the rep was pleasant, enthusiastic. She asked what I was shooting these days - when I said m43, she said that she had previously shot m43 too.

The X100 VI is certainly a nice, compact camera - no bigger really than the GX85 I owned for a brief while in the first half of last year. Would have liked to play with it longer, but a lot of folks wanted a go. Did take some test shots with the Reala Ace simulation, and I also have the RAW files ready for when DxO or Lightroom profiles become available for them.

I'm not sure it's in my budget, considering that I've booked a wildlife trip to India next year and am mulling a system switch to Canon or Nikon - but if I find myself with the money spare for it, perhaps. Could see it replacing my LX15 as my main "incidental" camera - the one I take out on meals out, to social events or as a just in case.

Hi Rich,

The profiles for the X100vi are available on Lightroom Classic Version 13.2 and Camera Raw 16.2. I was quite surprised when I downloaded a couple of test pics from mine and the new files were recognized straight off the bat. I was really happy that were available straight away as I thought it might be a while.

Well I'm happy...

These shots are all taken with the Reala Ace setting and are SOOC save for some diligent cropping on the "street portraits".

Remember years ago those b&w files of the Ricoh GRII that couldn’t be replicated in PP? It would be good to get your view on whether the new Fuji can do something similar👍.

Congrats Bill! @Lightmancer

My pre-order, black as well, is still TBD....
I ordered mine, unofficially, a few days before the announcement, placed a deposit on the day, and picked it up a week ago. That gave me time to sell a couple of cameras and a kidney on eBay so I could afford it.

I've been with the same dealer - London Camera Exchange in Guildford - for over 30 years. I was top of their list.
